Thanks chaps for all your feedback/pisstaking/abuse. I appreciate every word and it does all help!
I’ve woken up this morning, my lovely GF has taken The Idiot for his walk, we’ve had breakfast, the sun is shining and we are going out this afternoon for a bit of culture (art gallery!) and a bite to eat, so I’m feeling quite a bit better today.
My heart is saying I’d really love another bike. I don’t “need” anything powerful (TBH, I don’t “need” another bike of any type, at all) but I want something that will get me back up to Scandinavia in comfort, without me having to wring the guts out of it.
I’m following Nathan Millward of Facebook and he’s currently running a trip across Oz on 110cc (I think) Honda “Postie” bikes, so it really isn’t about how “big” the bike is, it’s the adventure itself, so maybe I need to rethink what/how/where I’m going to do/ride. Part of that will probably be commuting, even though that got me where I am right now! I guess if I do go back to commuting, I’ll be much more defensive in my riding.
My head is still saying “No”... it’s all a bit of a theoretical issue at the moment, as physically I can’t ride anyway. My head is also suggesting things like a Royal Enfield Himalayan...

Ha - I wouldn't care either. Belgian Shepherd ?
No, he’s a GSD x Australian Cattle Dog Cross, which is where the white and “red” bits of fur are from. He’s always had the white fur around his muzzle, which people think is because he’s “old”. He’ll be seven in September. Actually, he’s more of a GSD/ACD/Complete Bloody Idiot mix, with the emphasis on CBI!He has a rubbish sense of smell, he’s bloody clumsy, needs an ASBO for barking at the most random things, is very (over) protective of both me and GF and frankly, not that bright! I love him to bits and wouldn’t change him for the world and I’m glad I adopted him after he had a bit of a rough start in life (abandoned and tied up under a bridge in that there London).

That's more like it!!! You will get through this Dibble, and as for a bike, well if it's really what you want then do it, I would however seriously talk to your amazing GF about her feelings about it before you set your heart on getting back on one.
We have spoken about it and she’s said she’d never get on a bike with me again. That’s a real shame, because back in 2016, we had a great trip to Scandinavia together on the bike. I did the “drudge” of ride/ferry/long boring ride to Copenhagen, where GF flew out to a couple of days later. I had all her stuff with me on the bike already, so all she needed for the flight was her handbag. Then we did the reverse at the end of the trip. It just meant she saved about 4 or 5 days leave and I did the boring bits solo, so I could go a bit quicker than she’d have been comfortable with.Dibble said:
Also, photos of The Idiot (real name Jussi), just because he’s ace.
Yes, he’s on the bed. No, I don’t care.
Part Aussie is cool so you have a little bit in common with Mad Max. Aussies are lovely doggos that said they are incredibly intelligent.Yes, he’s on the bed. No, I don’t care.

Another update. This looks like marginally less than fook all, but this is the first time I’ve actually managed anything remotely like a “straight leg raise” since the start of reconstruction surgery back in April last year.
Today was the first day I was able to lift my leg off the bed, hold it up for a couple of seconds, then let it back down slowly and under “some” control. Yes, there is a bit of “lag” (slightly bent knee), but I’m feeling pretty bloody pleased with myself today if I’m honest. It’s been weekly physio and exercising several times a day to finally be able to manage this. I’m one step (ho ho ho) closer to getting rid of at least one crutch and more importantly, being able to drive again. The riding will take a little bit longer...

Thats a great start
I was in an RTA in 2008 and subsequently immobile in a wheel chair for the following 6 months.
I remember when the physio gave me leg lifting exercises to do and how difficult it was. Its amazing how fast you lose the strength in your legs if you dont use them, but also amazing how the body can heal itself and you recover over time.
Onwards and upwards !
