I'd say coming 2nd three years on the trot is being overshadowed. On each occasion by the Champion.

For Christ sake Gavia, don't ever be critical of Rossi

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but judging by some of the reactions I guess I read Gavia's comments differently to others.

For what it's worth I read it differently too confused

I'm a Huge Rossi fan. I never cheer when someone crashes as i'm a racing fan and people can get hurt. As per my second post on this thread, and my reply to you that you never quoted. he will ride when he see's fit. your posting that he's daft to ride so quick. just read back.

And i was right and you are quite simply wrong. He rode in every practice and got into Q1. And what a quali.

And Anti Rossi was never a post I made either, Just that your again wrong. Riders/racers know better than us simple forum posters.
I didn’t quote you, as my response was aimed at the two posters previously, whose sole comments were to post a smiley each, one laughing and one giving me the finger. That was my response to them. However, in response to this, I was very supportive of Rossi in my first two posts. I supported him riding at his ranch whilst others were crying into their cornflakes and I wished him well and for a full recovery.

I remain amazed that he raced. That isn’t an insult, that isn’t anything more than amazement that someone can do what he did. I do though still think it was daft to risk everything on a race that didn’t ultimately help him out in the championship. He lost ground to all of those above him and dropped back a place in the overall standings. I’m sure things could’ve worked out differently, but it’s unlikely that four other riders would fail to score / have poor races.

I hope this race hasn’t hindered his full recovery.
Cheers for that.

As for the race I was thinking all the way "don't fall, don't fall" though

He finished fifth in this race, he’s fifth in the championship, he hasn’t won the title since 2009, which is 8 years ago. He is the GOAT, but his time has passed. That’s not a criticism and I’m not having a dog at him, I’m saying that whilst he’s still there or thereabouts, others are overshadowing him now.
Although he hasn't won in 8 years, he has been a major factor and contender for the championship the last 3 years. Let the historical results be statements of fact:

2016: Rossi was 2nd.
2015: Rossi was 2nd, losing the championship by only 5pts.
2014: Rossi was 2nd.

Anyone who comes 2nd in the most recent 3 consecutive years is hardly being overshadowed or can it be claimed 'his time has passed'. So your comments are either a) hyperbole, b) unreasonable criticism, and/or b) having a dig at him. Take your pick.
I was thinking this when I just read it.

Second in 2016 is his time has not passed again until he see's fit to do something else.
Again what I'm trying to get at is peoples on forums thinking they know better that racers in Moto GP

This as much as I dislike when i've read others say Jenny Tinmouth is not a good racer in BSB as she's often at the back of the grid. She's going to be quicker than more than 99% of the people on here. maybe 100%

So what i'm getting to simply is when you post your opinions that's great. But again people can disagree like me for the reason "pro racers" know better than us. when they want to race and when they want to finish racing

My wife snapped her Tib and fib last year and required a Titanium rod to be hammered in below the knee. Her leg was a mess, badly bruised, extreme pain.

I cannot comprehend how Rossi got back on a bike after 3 weeks and went around a circuit flat out. He cannot be human!

Agree with he must be super human lol but going to be a different thing. from the fact Rossi is very fit (not saying you wife is not physically fit) wink

To depends on the type of brake. My good friend a few years ago had a half ton counter weight in a dock's fall through his leg. broke it badly. so bad he was in intensive care for 2 months and almost lost it. Too 6 months to get back to sort of normal. he had the rod in the through the bone as well.

So just depends on the type of injury

I know I don’t know better, it’s just my opinion. Bizarrely, I had a teammate this weekend who crashed in practice and decided he was going to use Rossi as an example of why he should race, despite not being able to walk. He didn’t race unsurprisingly.

Totally agree on the comments about Jenny Tinmouth, I’ve ridden on track with her and was totally annihilated.

My wife's break was a spiral fracture above the ankle, this causes internal tissue damage. But there were no open wounds.

Yes Rossi is a lot fitter than my wife! I can only assume it was a simple break in combination with a good team and fitness!

I'm not surprised. When I used to help out in BSB on several occasions all our riders raced with various injuries at some point, goes with the territory. I remember quite vividly casts being chopped back, riders lifted onto bikes trying to get their hands and feet onto the bars and pegs, in absolute agony. And Jenny is no slouch there's always someone faster but 99% of us wouldn't see which way she went biggrin
