For Rossi biking was always a game, I wonder if he really wants to win the championship these days. First he crashed, where he should have thought strategically, which basically killed his chances at the title, now he went enduro mid-season even though he already had problems with this stuff before. If this event ends his career it's really sad. Wish him speedy recovery.

Dovi is apparently being coached by Stoner, that's good. If Rossi is out then I want to see DesmoDovi take the title.

The surgery went well. This morning, when I woke up, I felt already good. I would like to thank the staff of the Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona, and in particular Doctor Pascarella who operated on me. I'm very sorry for the incident. Now I want to be back on my bike as soon as possible. I will do my best to make it happen!

I'm so surprised that he was training on an enduro bike, especially at this stage of the season with it being so close at the top. I know they all have to train and simply training in the gym isn't enough, but due to his motocross accident only a couple of months back it seems crazy to take any risk.

What's the earliest someone is likely to return from a tib and fib injury?

If it has been pinned and he passes the fitness test he could be out next weekend just to harvest some points. If it has just been realigned to heal naturally then he will be out 5 or 6 weeks and have muscle wasteage upon his return.

Part of the statement released by Yamaha this morning, so maybe good news?:

Upon arrival, he received surgery between 2am – 3am by Dr. Raffaele Pascarella, Director of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Division. During the surgery the fractures were fixated using a metal pin - a locked intramedullary nail - without any complications.

I can't believe the amount of people questioning the enduro ! MX stuff on here. His ranch has always had the Offroad dirttrack and that's what it's likely to have happened on. A few weeks back Edwards and Hodgson had a go at exactly the same set up at Colin's boot camp.

It's training for sharpness. All bike racing is dangerous.

think he has his own dirt bike track at home, so wonder if it was there?

Popular hang out for a lot of his GP mates, according to some TV doc I saw recently. IIRC, think it was this

also featured Colin Edwards' academy in Texas.

Well there's no doubt that when Rossi retires it will be the end of an era. No-one has quite captured the sport like he has, nor have they won over such a long period. Personally it won't stop me watching or attending the sport, but it won't be the same.

You have to appreciate that everyone looks at it differently and has a different view on racing. Some watch purely for the racing and couldn't care less about which pilot is on the bike. Others get behind one particular rider or team, for a number of reasons.

The Italians are so passionate which I think only adds to it. Can you imagine going to Coventry and not being able to move for Crutchlow merchandise/bars/fans/hotels?
That's what it's like in Tavullia and the surrounding towns on the Adriatic coast.

Will Yamaha let Zarco play with the factory bike??

Probably a can of worms, will end up taking points out of Vinales rather than Marquez.

I don't care who wins the championship as long as the rest of the season gives races like we have seen recently.

Awwwwww no frown Terrible news, but to be honest he wasn't going to win the title anyway.
Title has Marquez written all over it now. I'd love to see Dovi win, don't think he will though. Who is the Yamaha back up rider ?

Sounds similar to my break 20 months ago. IM nail and screws. Hopefully his break is simpler than mine as i'm still not 100%!

I'm not sure it's healthy for he sport as it's too tribal. Some of us watched well before Rossi was around and enjoyed it just as much. I worded the end of an era bit wrong, bit the point was made that there's too much focus on one rider. The sport should be bigger than any one rider, which is something that Dorna need to address.

I hope he recovers and comes back, but I don't think he'll win another title even before this break. It's a shame but age catches up with all of us eventually.

Similar to my own in Dec 1975 but mine was compound as well as ankle and Femur, oh and hip and 4 ribs, collar bone and shoulder as well as crushed left hand and ring finger amputated. Still not right after 42 years but that's another story.

He is fit as a flea and with an Inter Nail and good care he will perhaps miss this weekend but will be at the one after. Remember his break previously which was compound he was back racing in 5/6 weeks. Broke on 5th June 2010 and finished 4th on 18th July.

These geezers are tough.

Yeah I hear what you are saying.

I think it's even more of a shame that this has happened at this particular time... arguably the closest end to a season between 4 riders we've ever had, and after the performance at Silverstone I wouldn't have counted him out for a win at Misano to make it even closer, nevermind!

Yeah I'll never forget when Lorenzo broke his collarbone in Thurs practice at Assen back in 2013. Flew to Barcelona, had surgery, flew back to take part in the race and finished 5th.

Guess a double leg break needs a bit more time but who knows with these guys and the top treatment that they receive.

A rather bold statement if I may say so. Dovi currently tops the standings and only 4 points separate MM and MV. While Lorenzo isn't going to take the championship, I can see him continuing to improve and his finishing positions will at some point cause upset to the top 3.

So not clear cut at all. I'm hoping for a the championship goes all the way to be decided at Valencia
