Just how excited can you get about an Africa Twin?
I still don't get it.
Some old geezer I know keeps buying loads of st tools because he thinks he's getting a bargain.
I keep telling him "If you already have one, or don't need one anyway, it doesn't matter how much of a bargain it is. What's the point?"
Quite excited.I still don't get it.

I love motorbikes and this is a new one for me.
This isn't a st tool and we are getting a bargain.
I ride every day for hours a day, this will get used.(I have a couple of R1's - one track and one road and also a commuter with intergalactic mileage)
Don't be so boring.

Like I said, I'm more excited about picking up the AT tomorrow than I was about picking up my SP back in April. It's just because I've always had sports bikes so you know you're just buying a bit of evolution but I've never owned an adventure bike so it's a whole new thing for me. It's going to be great!
You will enjoy it! I only ride sports bikes on the track now (unless i want to go somewhere and look cool.. haha) Please can you tell use what they say about running in and your first impressions! I get mine on Saturday.

[I hope a DCT is ok to wheelie!]
I really want the foot shifter but the Honda price is simply too much!
I am ready to order this, but I am going to give it a go without first. I was thinking about it the other day while riding and i rest my foot on it. So it depends how 'mechanical' the lever feels. If it is like a stick connected to a button I would rather be without.I really want the foot shifter but the Honda price is simply too much!

I'm quite curious about what the owners manual says, too. In the SP owners manual it just says 'use it as you would normally', which was quite surprising because previous Blade manuals all gave a long list of what you should and shouldn't do. If the running in process allows wheelies I will let you know on Saturday. I used to power wheelie lots until i learned to clutch it up, so hopefully it allows :

Love it.
Did you get used to the DCT quickly? What is the crack with running in?
I got used to the dct really quickly, I did try to change up once though. It's quite alien not reaching for the clutch when pulling to a stop.Did you get used to the DCT quickly? What is the crack with running in?
I found the gears really good too, in sports mode, and I noticed it changing down quicker if I was braking harder, so there would be more engine braking...
Advice I got for running in was stay out of sports 3 mode so it doesn't rev too high, don't labour it, and keep varying the engine speed, for the first 600 miles (first service). So basically ride normally!
Point to note if anyone bought one with luggage from John Banks, the luggage is on backorder! Good thing I took a bungee net in my holdall "just in case", because no-one had told me!

EE's offer for the iPhone X costs more than the Africa Twin is costing me
I actually spent the same on Avocado and egg on a piece of toast that i normally get for breakfast 3 times a week when I am in the office.I also watched this whole YouTube series last night while the Mrs watched TV https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKuAkiaIPmczS62_-... - I have to admire somebodies ability to spend that much time on their own. I struggle to spend a 7 hour work day on my own at home.

And both equally pointless to most people, unless you could sell them both on.Imagine if you woke up next week and wanted to do that. Could you? No...I didn't think so.

I can tell you are not a fan. Maybe this thread isn't for you.

Were your white handguards on as standard?
Yup, what you see is a totally standard bike.I have been in touch with SP engineering who have done a lot of work for me on exhausts. They might borrow my bike for a week to fabricate a carbon slip on. Will post pics when done if any of you are interested in purchasing one, can get us a group buy discount i guess.

They will adjust the deal to cater for larger mileage.
Or you can just pay the excess mileage.
Or it doesn't really matter at all if you're going to keep the bike.
Seems like a bit of a flimsy reason
I guess I could keep my current commuter and divide my commuting between them....Or you can just pay the excess mileage.

Do I need 4 bikes??? I think so
Track bike
Road sports bike
Cb500x
AT
I'm continuing to use my existing commuter for work. With the AT doing it every now and then. Like you I do 3-4000 miles per month on my commuter. Will be using the AT as a tourer for me and the mrs as we go out a lot. I will also be doing 3 months touring all over in 2019z
Eventually it will replace my cb500x as a commuter. I am keeping it anyway after the 3 years so don't care about the miles.
Basically I did some wky man logic and the answer was buy one. So glad I did.

I thought this. But the DCT is really quite enjoyable. I have it in D mode but you can still shift up and down if you want to
I can't get used to D mode, it just seems to want to bog down all the time. Mine just stays in S1 for towns, S2 for anything else... Well, until the first service anyway!I went for a short 50 mile ride in the Dales yesterday, in the rain, I loved it! It feels so much quicker than anything else I've owned on these roads, just because it deals with them better, and it's also enjoyable at much slower speeds... I love the DCT too, it's always in the right gear, and you can still downshift yourself ahead of a corner if needed
The guy said that you can choose at what point it shifts up and down, will need to read the manual at some point.

I'm just impulsive. On this thread you can see me in the space of 5 hours or so go from a casual interest, to putting down a deposit. I still haven't fully weighed up what I'm doing or even read the finance agreement. I have also whacked well over a grand on bits, bobs, and insurance on the zero percent credit cards whilst I supposed to be saving for Christmas. My mates have nick named my bike the "Uganda Twin", owing to my overt willingness to take on debt without so much as a thought. (I can however comfortably afford it, so let's leave that there).
I have literally spent more time choosing phone covers than this motorcycle. I have never ridden a proper adventure bike, I didn't know until 20 minutes before the test ride that it wasn't a V-twin, or even how to sit on the bloody thing. I have some idea of what I want to do with it, chiefly because I own a DVD of "the long way round" and I will take it off road, but have negligible experience, so expect to smash it so badly I won't be able to return it in three years time.
But I think in my defense, motorcycles purchases don't really make much sense in general. I think if you start tying to rationalise these things you end up in those horrible circular arguments about "the real world", and "making use of it", then you'd basically be better off on the bus with all those soppy s spending £1,000 on a fking iPhone. The bottom line is, there's what you think you want, and what you can get away with. fk everything else.

I wanted a bigger commuter bike. Saw this and bought one in less than an hour. Then decided I wasn't going to retire my existing commuting bike and use this for adventuring in it's purest form. Then i spent a grand on bits for it.
It has given me the kick up the ass to get my 'classic' R1 sold, as my garage is packed to the rafters now. Having a 4th motorbike sat there not being used is a bit silly.
