I'm with you on that. Honda's don't float my boat but they have had used bikes in there that I have been interested in before and have been left feeling cold by them. I get the same feeling in Lamba's as well. It's amazing how dealers can get it so wrong dealing with people in what is such a generally good natured pastime
Ok so nothing has changed with Dobles approach worst of any bike dealer I've dealt with - I bought a 2nd hand Blackbird off them in 2008 and dealt directly with the then sales director who was extremely rude and condescending to me - but people like this don't phase me since he was shooting himself in the foot turning down my business. I was prepared to walk away and has started to do so (save for a mate looking at a second hand VFR which kept me in the showroom longer than I would have stayed) with my reasonable request in terms of asking price vs trade in when he came back apologised and agreed the deal with me where he got to within a few hundred pounds of what I'd initially requested, so the deal was done.
I wouldn't ever go back because of this poor experience - they set the bar low for a bike dealer.

Well, that did not take long. Struggled to get on the Cb500x in the morning and leave the Africa twin sat there.

So I sold the CB500x..
For any reasonable sum of money? I guess you're going to smash the AT mileage allowance out of the park now hehe
Not really to be honest! It was running fine still though!

Haha, yeh I am going to town on the mileage allowance. Be about 3,000 a month I think. Let's see how she holds up.

It has been a bonus for me this has. Because I do not pay for train costs I anticipate the requirement for a new bike every couple of years, which I like to buy with readies. So each month I would put £250 away with a view that after 2 or 3 years I would have up to 9000 for a new commuter, or more if my bike fund has performed well smile So I was ready to buy anyway!

So what are we paying for the first (600miles) service?

My local Honda dealer quoted £158 for which they would change the oil and filters, and 'give it a good check over'

As they will get the oil and filters for under £30, that's 2 1/2 hours at their normal workshop labour rate checking it over.

It's my first new bike, so my first dealer 'first' service. What have experience have others had?

Honda Cambridge will do it for £100

Wheels Honda quoted: - Was it bought from here?

No.

That will be £200!

I've just called Honda of Bournemouth and booked my AT in for its first service. I've been quoted £155, which seems fair enough, as the bike isn't from them.

Prior to collection I had asked John Banks to fit a centre stand however the request seemed to be overlooked and on collection there was no Stand... I've asked my local dealer to fit a Stand whilst it has the first service however Honda are out of stock until mid November!! This is a right royal pain in the arse as not only would I use the Centre Stand for maintenance and cleaning but I was also planning to put the bike on one of those Dolly Stands that allows you to move the bike around on castors. I could then fit my car in the garage as well.

£50 for oil and filter. £40 labour by my mobile mechanic. Doesn't have to be a Honda dealer, not paying their joke of a price.

First trip in on it today. Happy overall. Fuel economy isn't great to be honest. I do Bristol into London and have to fill up again at reading services on the way home.

I will estimate that I am getting 50mpg. That is at 85-95mph (I take a private road all the way into work yadda yadda). I have spent 3 years.

Big learner for me in the traffic today getting used to the height of this. I am 6ft 1 but am sometime tippy toeing when filtering slowly.

Right. Annoying morning thanks to a puncture I acquired whilst riding through fields and rivers on Saturday. I'd ordered some TKC80s to be fitted when it goes in for service on the 14th but that's now been expedited for tomorrow afternoon. It's going to be interested to see the road manners of those monster tyres.

They do look very knobbly! So i am looking forward to hearing what you think.

I bet they won't feel very good on the road and may be noisey

I've read a lot of reviews and everyone says the same thing; not as bad as you think they'd be.

But we'll see what happens tomorrow smile

£80 at my Honda dealer, I was pleasantly surprised but it's still very easy money for them

Fitted the Heed Bunker crash bars and skid plate, took about half hour to un-box and unwrap all the parts, and about 2 hours to assemble. Instructions were just about ok, i took it slowly and carefully, with hindsight an extra pair of hands would have been handy.

Do those crash bars mount together underneath the motorcycle? Is the skid plate also Heed?

Looking to get a set of bars for my bike.

The bars mount on the main down tube either side like a clamp around, skid plate is also heed. They seem solid and were the right money!

Not as bad as I expected. You can feel the blocks <15mph but after that it's not too noticeable.

They look awesome... I was going to go for some Metzler Tourance as they have that blocky look but are supposed to be the business on and slightly off road. However I can't find them in the Africa Twin size... so looking at Pirelli Scorpian trails.

Check the speed rating on the TKC 80's.

I had them on my KTM 1190 during my East Africa adventure and whilst good they don't last long and they weave like a MoFo at speed.

And I seem to remember their max speed rating was quite low. But I got 260 out of them with full luggage and fishing gear!! hehe
