Thanks for this.

Spoke to John Banks, spoke to another Honda dealer and negotiated a deal which I promised not to disclose in the public domain.

Short version is I'm now renting (own?) a red Dakar DCT Honda twin for £70/month!

Not even bloody ridden one. biglaugh

It's never going to fit in the shed is it?
Wow, good work!

Mate I was just looking at the generic Honda deal, then I saw the John Banks one (which was worth heading to Cambridge for with a bit of a hassle), then a local dealer called me up and basically made me a deal which was even better for my circumstances. I've signed the paperwork, picked a registration, but I'm still somewhat in disbelief...

Similarly for me, I'm wanting Crash bars, and heated grips, but more importantly I need some bloody textiles and boots as I only have my sports stuff which won't really do the job!

Herself went fking mental. Thank Christ I've just spent loads on the family or I'd be sleeping with the new bike in the shed!
You keeping the GSX-R as well?

Yeah, that's the main reason I went for the deal.

Going for a "horses for courses", rather than having to sell it to fund a "jack of all trade's" bike like the MT-10 I was looking at (but didn't get to test ride as they sold out!).

Hope it works out, but financially it makes plenty of sense.... As much as having three bikes as toys makes any financial sense... biglaugh

Which crash bars are you getting?

I've just thumbed through the Honda accessories catalogue and genuinely burst out laughing several times, so assume you're also not getting genuine?

e.g. 12v accessory socket, cost of parts £3, Honda price £50 + £38 wiring harness + £50 labour

The parts are ludicrously expensive. comfort pack is over 1K.

I wonder what JB will charge for servicing the bike, i presume i can go to any Honda dealer and get best deal on services?

Bloody hell, I hope I don't have to go to JB for a service, it's a 3.5h ride away!

I was told by both JB and local dealer that wasn't necessary. If you think about it, it's not fair to tie a customer to a single Honda branch for three years. It would be very off putting.

Crash bars - also looking at these, and Heed seem to get good reports and at a reasonable price point. They do 2 versions - upper and full. I'm thinking about the uppers plus a wider sump guard (Bumot possibly) which covers the DCT gubbins too - means you can get away without the lower crash bars. There's lots of choice though - it's not making it easy to come to a decision.

OP - Supercommuter... thanks for publicising this deal.

I managed to secure 2 Dakar red bikes yesterday and two of my mates ordered there's also in black. So thank you for sharing so we could take the adventure plunge. Its one way of getting us off sport bikes.

The only question is how easily will the DCT wheelie as we like the odd wheelie and with a CRF designated bike its mandatory to try.

In terms of accessories.. I have decided not to go for any of the Honda accessories as they seem very overpriced and not better than anything from the aftermarket.

The only thing I really wanted for my bike was the foot shifter for those times where I am scratching as it seems natural. The £340 price tag doesn't seem very palatable.

PCP agreements are designed for owners who change regularly and not for someone that keeps their bike for ever.

Looking at what's on offer, the dealer has ripped all margin and possibly finance commission out of the deal to subsidise the 0% offer. He is probably only working for volume bonus and a registration for the month / quarter which will net his back end bonus from Honda.

Regarding mileage restrictions, this only comes into play if you want to hand back at the end of term, something you would only do if the market value is less than the residual.

Clever deal by the dealer to clear stock off his books for the off season type

My understanding was that the PCP deals were set up so that the residual value was intended as a worst case. The idea was to hand the back bike but to still have a reasonable deposit for the next deal. It's all about getting more new bikes out the door as they have started to become unaffordable (£15-20k) without some form of finance.

I think its a really cracking price and at the end of the term I'll just clear the remainder and run the bike as my do it all.

A great deal...

However I think Honda accessories are not a great deal and those of us buying are better off with aftermarket stuff.

Looking into a decat and slip on for 2018.

Is that REALLY zero deposit and £70 pcm? And that's it? For 4k miles p.a? That's an amazing deal.

Even if you doubled the mileage, that's only an extra £280 over the term, with or without VAT. £7.50 a month more!

Almost tempting just so I could post in the "Frivolous Purchases" thread!

Seems there aren't any white ones left :-(
Also they need your actual licence to set up the finance which I can't send as I'm going on holiday Tuesday morning, and I'm hiring a bike.
I'm in the huff
It's an unreal amount of bike for hardly any money a month. Enjoy, everyone who got one.
(I know it's to be a secret, but could Prof P give me a clue about a local deal north of the border)

What was it like otherwise? I guess the screen can be addressed.

They told me I'd have to send my licence by post on the first call, but when it came to sorting the finance paperwork the guy asked me if I could scan it and email it... I guess they'll just check its real before they hand the bike over!

That's handier!
He was very insistent that he wanted to see the physical card, even when I explained I'm near Glasgow. He told me to go and have a think if I could see a way round it, which I can't.

I spend more than this on teas and coffees in a month.
Want a white one.
I'll have four bloody bikes/scooters
Help.
