Who has purchased a new Africa Twin?

Would these handle a bit of light green laning or would they be absolutely sh*t?
Yes with the right tyres as others have said however could get expensive if you have an off !! and I would want a few mates along because if you got properly stuck it might take a bit of freeing ..

Mostly price here. I think it's actually fairer to say it competes more closely with the 850GS personally.
1200GS entry price is £12,400.
CRF1000L entry price is ~£9,000, with DCT.
850GS entry price ~£10,000
That said, DCT gearbox was a positive for me, perceptions of reliablity (which I think it's fair to say is fairly proven now), and I prefer the looks.
It's mostly an irrelevance to me, but I preferred the CRF1000L off road to the GS. Both were more than capable of what little I throw at them however.
Price mainly - I've come from a GS to an AT (albeit an old 1200 GS). 1200GS entry price is £12,400.

Honda offered 0% finance, BMW wanted 6.9%
I wanted to keep my monthly payments at £100 for my bike, and I'm pretty bloody close to that, I went for the Africa Twin Adventure Sport, manual with quick shifter and auto blipper.
It's a nice ride on the road, yet to take it off road. Only picked it up Tuesday and first service is coming Tuesday so i'll venture off road after that.
haha, it does! Got bars on it now which beef it out a bit and will get rear pannier frames to help protect the back. Scorpion STRs are going on today in advance of an off-road foray next weekend.
What you really meant was it looks like a stunning slender bike compared to the overweight KTMs

Went and looked at one yesterday, booked a test ride for next weekend on an adventure sports, I'm 6'2 & it was like I was climbing on a horse
I commute from kent to London every day so going to see how that compares to my current 99 Fireblade - be great to have a do it all bike, commuting, green laning etc

Those chaps who are using the bike off road, how are you managing with your slow manoeuvres?
I took it around a field on Saturday and really struggled tight moves without a clutch.
To be honest still take forever to turn in the road as well...

As said, rear brake to oppose the throttle and adjust the speed will work wonders.I took it around a field on Saturday and really struggled tight moves without a clutch.

On tarmac, it's just practise - looking right round where you are going not in front of you, keeping speed/momentum up (too slow and you'll tip it pretty quickly) and most importantly, shift your weight to the outside and lean the bike into the turn.
I can do it fairly tight now, within a double car park space.

Can you not just angle the bars as you go through? I mean if it's too narrow for that then I'd be amazed if changing the bars to gain some tens of mm made any odds.
The mirrors will still clip it..
Got a test ride booked for Thursday so I'll see, should go in Ok but just not as easy as my Fireblade does The mirrors will still clip it..
Mine is a nightmare. I rebuilt the gate in Spring to make it wider but it's still too narrow, it would be fine just angling the bars but there's a steep ramp before the gate, so it's all a bit Evel Knievel.
On the plus side, combined with my hellish decking, pretty sure no one can steal my bike without years of MX training.

Anyone installed a wider screen?
I installed the rugged roads air dam last night and that stopped all the buffeting, literally life changing.
I'm now left with a lot wind on my shoulders thats coming through between the screen and mirror - it's fine to deal with day to day but I can see it becoming a cold problem in winter. Just after some recommendations that don't look ste.
Added a Givi Trekker top box too - bit of a faff fitting all the mountain plates under the seat etc since the adventure sport wasn't specced to have a top box from factory.
Means I can ditch my rucksack now - much comfier.
