Update on my wheels.

Had a call from the dealer, Honda requesting 'general pictures of the bike' and a description of what I use the bike for.

Wonder if this will get interesting...
Nah they will give you a new set without drama

Pretty standard. You won't have any drama.

Oh that's good to hear...I'm only after one, the rear is fine.

My rank is rusting too. I've not reported that yet...anyone have any experience on getting a new fuel tank under warranty?

9k mile 1 year old ATAS...

Not heard of tank issues!

You seriously need to get some of this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corrosion-Block-Grease-Mo...tongue outla-699740178395&psc=1

I slap it all over the bike especially up under the front on the stem and between the radiators twice a year. Mine has some surface rust on it but nothing to worry about.

Comparably I have seen loads of other new bikes that have rotten as well, my aftermarket exhaust and aftermarket center stand has also rusted.

I'm a regular user of ACF50 - generally the bikes OK, a few surface areas but nothing i'm bothered about except the wheel and tank.

Will see what Honda say, can't get any images of the tank rust as it's under gap between between the top 'fairing' and the tank it's self. More annoying that I know it's there than anything.

I do use ACF50 but the Corrosion Block Grease is far superior IMO for bits that are seriously exposed, such as the bit between the radiator at the front. Give it a go if you can after your next clean..no i don't own shares in them smile

Where is it rusting? Have seen a few which have had clogged fuel filters from the tank lining coming away - mine had some very light rust where the seat clamp is and also where the black plastic part fits on top but coated with ACF50, scrubbed it all in with a toothbrush and all cleared up - been fine.

They offered me the standard £1290 off and £1290 of Power Parts, 4.9% finance but I wasn't pushing.
Yep got a cracking deal, my friend owns a local Ktm dealer and yes I’ve ridden one a few times and it’s so much more than the africa twin, the Honda is a great bike but in terms of performance, suspension etc the Ktm is like a sportsbike on stilts
Had a ride last week, what a bike! We were a bit adrift on the deal so I was resolved to wait and see if there was anything over the winter. Sales guy emailed me this morning with a significant sweetener so I collect it first week of October smile

Need to get my AT up on eBay I suppose and I may as well return it to standard as the bits don't seem to add much to the price.

I was going to wait until the new AT is launched on Monday but c'est la vie!

Cheers,

Phil

Nice one! be interesting to see the new one but I dont think I'll be missing out on much - so far I've heard it has an extra 100cc/4hp & a TFT screen

What bits are you selling?

Couple of people interested today oddly - they approached me to talk about the DCT at the cafe last night and are supposedly coming to look today.

If they don't have it then I'll be taking off:

Black Rugged Roads rear luggage plate
XR650 Pegs
Barkbusters with black covers
Rear Panniers that have been independently keyed
Possibly the Heed Bunker Bars
Possibly Oxford Advanced Touring Heated Grips
Rear Brake Pedal Extender
TomTom Rider 400 with crossbar mount from Iconic
Kappa Tinted KD1144S Screen

I've also got a spare set of black wheels, a set of Karoo 3's with about 1,000 miles on them, an unfitted fender extenda, a full Spidi H2Out Africa Twin suit and I'm a bit gutted that I'll have to retire my AT Arai Tour X4 and buy something that matches the KTM!

Didn't realise how much stuff I'd collected - it's been a great 2 years and 9k miles though.

Phil

Hopefully it goes the way you want later, but if you are taking all this off I'll be happy to get a few bits off your hands!

First guys wife has said no and haven't heard from number 2.

It's all removed except for bars and heated grips so PM me if you are interested in anything.

New AT looks like it's been updated with some fancy (or is it just what we expect now?) electronics and dash.

5kgs lighter, slightly more torque and power. Updated dash, new chassis and subframe, aluminium swing arm and loads more. Definetly the standard model is aimed at those who want to go proper offroad, and looks like they are aiming at ktm territory now. I'll likely go for one when the time is right.

Hey don’t attack my ignorance but is the only way I can get out of my 3 year pcp deal by paying half the value they would get on the entire deal? Ie if the final value they expect to get is £10,500 for VT I have to pay £5,250?

Believe it or not after I started my pcp I got a new job really close to home so am hardly using my bike! I’m wondering, as mad as this, is to hand it back - pay the 4 grand or whatever is left. I have to pay over a grand a year insurance so I would ‘save’ £2k even though I lose the use of the bike. Had the bike 8 months so far out of a 3 year deal.

Just sell it privately. You pay off the finance and bobs your uncle. Just tell the buyer, you can do it with then there to confirm paid off. You’ll probably loose a bit unless you had a big deposit, but if not using the bike, your just paying for it to depreciate anyway.
Stick it on here/Ebay/trader/mcn now - winter here soon!

Vt You need to be half way though total amount - which I assume you’re not near.

Most here can't do that as they took advantage of the 0% deposit and low monthly payments.

So no where near 50% of the value repaid, and the total amount repayable in finance would be vastly higher than if they simply made their payments for the duration of the contract.

Honda rejected my warranty claim for wheel corrosion - due to salt solution or similar off the roads causing this.

Fun times.
