Well, after a couple of hours delay due to ice, then stting myself more than I thought I would, managed to pass Mod 1 with no faults!

Mod 2 should be booked in for mid-January. Also got some more gear for Christmas; Oxford base layers, Alpinestars neck warmer thingy, bike cover.

Not long now!

Am I missing something with these BikeSafe courses? Can't see any available in the north west (Lancaster onwards).

Guys, is bike safe worth it as I'm thinking to join IAM. I've had a taster session with an IAM instructor and had a really good time.

Are they mutually exclusive or will I learn whatever BikeSafe teaching with IAM?

Bike safe in my area is £50, joining IAM is £140 per year.

From what I can judge Bikesafe is essentially designed to lead into the IAM syllabus.

If you're tightish on cash then skip the Bikesafe, although it is also good fun, and I found it interesting to ride with marked Police bikes.

They used to run them from Kendal, not sure if they do now.

Edit, they still do, next one is Sat 21st April

You could also try the local RoSPA group, £30 a year, and put some fuel in instructors bike , its similar to IAM

as with most organisations, its all down to the individual people you meet and spend time with.....

For anyone starting out like me and wondering about costs, I paid my full bill this week. It was £795 which included theory, CBT, Mod 1 test, Mod 2 test and 3 full days training.

I'm sure it will differ from place to place, probably cheaper elsewhere as it's the only one in the area for me.

Itching to get that Mod 2 done now.

If I do pass, I happen to be getting my car serviced on the Saturday afterwards. The service centre is conveniently just 'round the corner from both the Honda and Suzuki dealerships......

Mod 2 tomorrow! Don’t think I’ll sleep tonight (excitement, not nerves).

Had my first experience of an open, relatively straight, multi-lane dual carriageway on Monday. My god.

Good luck!

Riding a bike certainly realigns your sense of acceleration.

Well ladies and gents, I’d like to thank you for your wishes of good luck, apparently they worked. Passed with three minor faults, all for taking junctions a bit wide.

Nearly fked it by forgetting my paperwork and then it nearly got called off part way through as one of the indicators was goosed but sorted itself out.

Probably gonna go and order an SV650 on Saturday.

Congratulations, the cost will be worth it. I've been obsessed about bikes all my life. I'm 53 now and there's still nothing like getting up at the crack of dawn with nothing on the roads and meeting up somewhere with likeminded mates for a bacon sarnie and a chinwag.

It's just not something car people seem to do.
