I treated myself to a D Air Misano suit the other week. Custom fit and colours, wasn't cheap but if it saves one broken collarbone it's paid for itself. I'd highly recommend Dainese store Manchester too, top service throughout. I'll report back when I actually get it, should be another 2-3 weeks.

I wore a rucksack there and back, no issues at all. For me I prefer leather, I'll just layer up as it gets colder.
Can you wear a rucksack with the new misano jacket? They told me you couldn’t when I went to see the older version.

I wear one all the time on trackdays. Never 'used' it and hopefully never have to!

What do you think of the suit?

I really like it, it was a bit tight for the first couple of days but it was starting to soften up a bit after then.

It’s a bit of a pain charging it, but I only had to do it once during 5 days on track.

It does feel a bit heavy too. Doesn’t feel it when it’s on though, just when carrying it about. I guess that’s where the Mugello suit is better, but I didn’t want to pay nearly £5k for a custom one of those.

The Dainese pro axial boots that go with it are awesome too, so comfy.

I think the Alpinestars one is a vest that goes under the leathers isn’t it? Also aren’t they banned from selling them in some countries because of the patent by Dainese? Don’t know if that means they’ll change it all for the 2018 range

Great choice.

Love my Dair. Had to big crashes on track and been able to walk away from the both.
Both crashes have seen me land on my shoulder too - the metal shoulder plates caved in, ruined helmet, huge slide tumble etc.

Wouldn't ride on the track without it now.

Does make me think I need an equivalent for the road though...

It is a removable vest that is integrated with certain leathers, which is a bonus I reckon. Means if I have a huge crash and write off the leathers, 1K buys me a new suit and the 1K vest is carried over. Also, the vest allows 2 pops as opposed to dainese's 1 before needing to go back to Italy. Also, you just send the vest back, so can continue to use the leathers with a normal back protector during that time.

No idea about being banned from selling. They're allowed to sell them in the U.K. So that's all that bothers me.

I doubt they will change the airbag system much at all as it's still fairly new, but if they have new colours for 2018 then I might prefer some of them, or they might sell the 2017 colours a little cheaper which would be fine as well

Anyone know if Dainese are updating the misano jacket for 2018? I’m not sure if I should hold off or buy the current one.

I ordered one months ago, there were none size/style I wanted in stock in the UK & the build slot for it means it will be ready end of next month (that's the earliest it could be done). That should be a 2017 Misano jacket that they are making in 2018 so I can't see it being any different this year.

Thanks. Do you know if they’ve incorporated the canister into the back protector for 2017 rather than just in the flap at the waist? That kind of worried me, if hit by a car at standstill it’s going to be pressing on the base of the spine and the airbag won’t activate at standstill.

In 2016 I bought a misano and I got a size up, is this the correct way to go about sizing so the airbag has room to activate?

IIRC yes the canister was at rear base of jacket. I haven't had a Dianese before so I don't know how the sizing compared to regular (non D-air) Dianese jacket sizing and I found the sizing coming up very small. I ended up ordering two sizes up on what I normally do in other brands (where as the matching pants were my regular size). They had the jackets in various sizes for me to try (& I would say definitely try them out for size as the jacket is obviously a bit bulkier than a normal leather jacket) but they didn't have the combination of size/colour/style that I wanted & that's why I've had to order & wait for the new season build stuff to start coming through.

I found the opposite on sizing - I had a standard d1 jacket in 52 and bought I bought the same size d-air. Arms very slightly shorter due to the extra armour but no issues as the gloves cover the sleeves fine.

Has anyone looked at Alpinestars Tech-Air textile jackets, e.g. the Revenant airbag jacket, or the BMW Tech-Air jackets?

No, but the BMW ones look good.

Five pages later - thanks for the replies - I now have a Tech Air vest. It adds a few kilos to the jacket but you don't notice it unless holding the jacket in your hand. I've only worn it the once (two hour ride back from the shop) so I can't comment much more or than saying that the red low battery light it hard to ignore smile I should've got the shop to charge it up for me.

Thread revived to ask if there are any new products due for 2019 ... ?

Alpinestars seems to be ever increasing its range of Tech-Air compatible jackets. I haven’t spotted any product news from BMW or Dainese yet.
I hear that Alpinestars have made an open patent for 2019 with their Tech-Air vest, so that now other manufactures can make Tech-Air compatible products.
I'm not sure if any are planned for the road market, but there's a few brands that will have 1 piece race suits Tech-Air ready mid 2019

I have studied that - and I decipher you were accelerating to the point of what was achievable at the time. Front wheel lifting slightly, both wheels under pressure.
