I’m done with roads for the year. One last trackday jolly to Portimao then two of my trackbikes go up for sale.

Then it’s onto this for some fun in the mud. No idea why I’ve just fitted a load of new plastics as they’ll be fked inside 10mins

No idea whynones sideways but the bike will spend most ofjitsntime upside down so may as well get used to looking at it the wrong way round.
I keep toying with the idea of getting something similar as a winter hack but just had to lay out £7000 for my boys '18 CRF250, then get a second set of wheels & all the crap that goes with it to have it ready for next season...

Think if I do I'll get a ol' workhorse 5-7 year old efi unicam honda 450. They chug away forever

This is a 2013 XCF250 so half way between the SXF MX bike and the softer EXCF Enduro bike. Not road legal so cost relative peanuts at £2500 earlier this year after I blew my KXF up. 450 is waaaayyyyyyy too much for me.

We started this for the first time for many over winter last year and got hooked and carried on into the warmer months, including two long races. Most fun I’ve had on a bike in a long time, up until this years short circuit racing.

I've just sorned it for the first time since owning it because it was away having a new clutch fitted while i was in Jerez and I've got the lip on with it.

Its something else to trip over in the garage for 6 months every year now.

Sounds like you are living in the wrong place - or does it make you well 'ard to live in perma-winter?? I can't imagine much worse than constant cold, dark at 3pm, non-stop rain, weird unintelligible accents, etc. I haven't turned on my central heating in the softy Saaaaaf since the end of March....
Anyway, surely bikes are designed to be waterproof? A bit of ACF50 to keep salt out of the oily bits, heated gloves, & Bob's your uncle for everything except for snow. Even that's a laugh if you've got a dirt bike kicking around. I certainly wouldn't want to go touring in the winter, or ride for much more than an hour when its below 5C

I commute on the bike until the overnight temps fall below about 5-6 degrees. I'm usually ok up until Jan and I don't use ACF50. Being based in Great Missenden in the Chilterns means that the local roads can get colder due to being a little high up.

The low sun has been a factor this week, a couple of short stretches of motorway have as if I'm riding directly into it.

Scooter commuter. All year.

Last year was my first so was brilliantly naive to the cold wet snowy weather.

Im not looking foward to it this year as I know whats coming.

Its still better than the thought and expense of the train.

Work offshore Uk, live near Aberdeen and my time off will involve popping over to Singapore this trip, so it's likely I've already had my last run of the year.
It'll be mid November by the time I'm home next, and that's just too cold for me.

Cars will be the way forward until spring, I'll be tinkering with the bikes though!

So if you do ride through the snow and slush and salt, how and when do you clean your bike?
I have a hose in the back yard, and I can ride my bike through into the back yard and hose the salt and crap off, if I need to. I’ll leave it to cool off a touch, then blast it in every nook and cranny,

A coat of that ac50 stuff will go on before the salting starts.

If it's salty I just rinse it with cold water when I get home, to wash the salt off. Really only rinsing the brakes and chain. The salt will eat brake pads and callipers.

I think I've accidentally put mine away in the middle of September. I popped out for a curry on it a few weeks ago. Since then its not moved. I won't do anything special to store it, I'm confident it will start with no problem whenever I next get to it.

It'll stay road legal, so there is still the possibility I will go out for a ride in the middle of winter, but with our first child due soon, I think I might discover a distinct lack of time. Its a shame, as I've not even done 1000 miles on my new street triple yet.

It was a nice day today, that's me done, bike has been deep cleaned and polished and is now parked, going to have to buy something to fiddle with during the winter.

It was +16 in the North East yesterday, definitely a missed trick for those who have parked up for the winter. No bike for me this winter as I'll be knocking the garage down so nowhere to keep one. Once it's done I'll buy another
