Can't go much wrong with the MT09 and spend some money on suspension upgrades. I had a blast on one (had the quickshifter and some other bits) when I tested the XSR900 last week and loved it; I just happened to love the XSR more, with the way it looks..
Yeah the one on the pic had the factory QS and the optional £1000 akrapovic, sounded nice but not £1000 nice, didn't really get chance to get much of a feel for the suspension but it seemed flighty, although greatly improved from the first MT's so I'm told, I didn't test an XSR as I'm not 100% on the styling but they can't be much different,Janluke said:
Is the SP version of the MT09 worth the extra?
I didn't think so personally as its just an ohlins shock (which will need respringing for my fat arse) gold forks and a stitched seat, nice looking though, but not worth £1200 moreAs a shameless plug if anyone wants the cheapest FZ1 in the country mine is up for grabs for under £2k if anyone is interested, its well sorted but has done a few miles, I know for sale posts aren't allowed but feel free to PM me
Gratuitous pic

Been enjoying a few bikes today as I'm on the hunt for a new bike
First up was this
Lovely lovely looking thing, it sounded brilliant on full throttle with a wicked induction howl, and rode really well apart from a crap gearbox but not in the slightest bit sporty and I'd be bored or kicking myself after a ride out with the usual suspects, a great second bike maybe, but no good as my only bike
Then this
Shame it was pissing down so I couldn't properly thrash it but it was great fun, the engine is fantastic and it feels so light and flickable, the electronics are pretty good and it pulls mega wheelies, its a contender
Then I had a go of this
At this point it was in a thunderstorm, all I remember is lots of noise and wheelspin when I opened the throttle, I cut the test ride short and headed back to the dealership, it was a bit scruffy underneath for me for the money they were asking, I will have to try one on a dry day if I can.
Next up was a Street Triple RS (I forgot to take a pic), by the time I'd got to Blackburn the rain had stopped so I had chance to have a good play, the dash was lovely, the brakes were stunning and it rode and handled really well, but the engine was disappointing after the MT, it felt a bit dull to be honest and it certainly wasn't as quick in the midrange despite being 20bhp up on it, nice but not £3k better than the MT.
I don't know what else to try to be honest, I don't want an MT10 or other 'super naked' so might just buy the Yamaha, they are brilliant value and under 8k new with a few accessories thrown in.
Interesting to hear your thoughts on these mate as im looking at similar bikes, at the mo im leaning more to the MT10 but I need the time to try the BMW...maybe I should try an MT09 as well..First up was this

I have the offer of a perfect CBR6 in those colours and you're not helping!
What’s the spec/price/Miles? I got more thumbs up on it yesterday than my friends 899 which was 6 times more money lol.I think I’d have to paint the wheels white.

Bob1179 has that same model of Kawasaki. Great looking thing, and one of those bikes that I think really works in the “proper” colours. Same with the GSX, to me, it only looks “right” in the blue and white.Gratuitous pic
Out of the others, that MT09 looks the absolute nuts. Not personally my cup of tea, but seems like a heck of a lot of bike for the money. Having seen you ride, it’s the one that makes me think “hooligan”, so ideally suited for you!
That Fazer of yours is really tidy looking. It’s another one of those bikes that I’ve always thought looks “right”. Shame I’m not in a position to get back riding just yet, it’d be an ideal thing to get back into biking on. Good luck with the hunt for your new wheels and the sale of the Fazer. Keep us posted.

Nice exhaust!
Yes, that is one thing that does bother me about the Ohlins - the cartridge kit at the front has no springs, so at least the right ones could be chosen. I did fit an NTR R1 to the rear of my old VFR 750 and it transformed the bike, what have you got on yours?

The front cart kit from them with Fitting will be over £1k, the Ohlins a similar number.
Ktec is £750 (ish) fitted to removed forks.
Andreani is another choice, many people have self fitted them to other bikes.
Might be worth looking into.
After riding the bike for a month or so, I ordered the rear shock realizing how poor the standard one was.
The front is one of them I think it would make a difference, but not on the needs doing now list.
I choose the xsr after sitting on it and the mtt09 in the show room, the mt had a cramped riding position where the xsr has more room.
That's the 2016 versions of both bikes, the updated mt09 wasn't out at the time, so this might be different now.
The sp version of the mt09 isn't worth the premium, the shock has a very soft spring and the front still needs the damping looking at.
I would get the standard mt and sort the suspension yourself.

Hooligan? me? I couldn't possibly comment you are right about the FZ1, it would be ideal if you do decide to get back on 2 wheels, although no-one would blame you if you decided not to.Absolutely shattered after my ride today. Loving the conti race attack endurance for their grip although passing cars towards the end of a ride today going into the centre and caught a load of gravel. Big side ways moment that made me pukka up for a bit after. Happened very quick.
Laughed hard seeing a mates gay gsxr with bum wipes in there... But wasn't laughing for long when I needed to borrow some from the montage of flies all over my visor

Thankfully, me and the wife are splitting.
Unfortunately, we still have to live with one another until it's all sorted out.
I'm now finding any excuse whatsoever to take the bike or dog out.
Just did a 30 mile round trip and another walk for the dog to get some reduced lamb legs from the Co Op.
Added up to an hour or so of peace and quiet. Best fiver i've spent this month.
Depending how the divorce goes, I will be after an SP1 or 2 as a second bike
