A picture a day...biker banter (Vol 5)
Discussion
Got out for a nice ride on Saturday across the ferries:
Went to a little bike show down south on Sunday. Not much going on, apart from a stunt rider riding into a car at a decent clip as part of a first aid/safety demo by the ambos. Noteworthy because they didn't say what was going to happen before he just hammered into the front wheel of the car.
But I did see this in the car park:

Looks purposeful Mr OCD. How are those Power RS's getting on?
As an OCD antidote - new front 14T sprocket and DID Extra heavy duty gold chain fitted to the 1098S this weekend. Very satisfying to detail those bits you can't usually easily get to with the chain in place.

The Power RS's are doing ok but not wearing as well as they did on the blade. I suspect this bike is a little heavy on tyres!
Completely agree... its why I am looking forward to the exhausts / CAT coming off in preparation for the ECU flash in a couple weeks. It gives me a chance to clean the rear end properly although I'm not anal about this bike like I have been with previous... I don't know why either. It's a good bike.
A bit cleaner now after a quick wash.

V.shiny...How you getting on with it Pete and why did you change the chain, bit more bling? As an OCD antidote - new front 14T sprocket and DID Extra heavy duty gold chain fitted to the 1098S this weekend. Very satisfying to detail those bits you can't usually easily get to with the chain in place.

Me (number 32) trying my best to avoid a collision at the Ulster Grand Prix this year. No serious injuries were received by the way.
Glad to hear it, you racing the roads again next year?podman said:

Chain pure bling. The 9 year old OEM one was fine at 6000 miles, but was blacky/grey even after cleaning. I'm a tart.

I got mine up on my new abba stand so that I could coat the wheels with Gtechniq C5 which should make keeping the wheels clean a lot easier.
I did 150 miles on it this weekend which has been the furthest I've ridden, I've only had my license a month but I'm loving the experience of being on two wheels, wish I'd done it years ago.

What exhausts are going on? Should lighten the look of the rear a lot. Anything with underseat pipes is a missing to keep OCD fresh if using in all weathers, unless you like stripping pipes off weekly. Perhaps that's why! Unless it's the matt paint making your head think "I'll never get it shiny anyway"
I'm staying with the standard exhausts (they are very light being Titanium) but with A&R race baffles and a de-cat pipe to lose the heat! Makes sense to do this before the ECU flash. I liked the idea of some akras / arrow exhausts but given they are the best part of a grand and offer no performance improvement I'll stick with the standard ones! It is booked in for a Woolich race tools ECU flash to sort the crap throttle mapping (all modes) and a few other bits in 2 weeks so I'll get the exhausts and de-cat on just before its due as these bikes run very lean under 6000rpm so I don't want to make it worse.
Plan with this one is to get it nicely fettled but with minimum bling ... I like the understated look of this one for some reason and want to keep it that way. I simply cannot be bothered going through what happened with the blade again.
As for keeping the exhaust section clean I have a few tricks for that ...
p.s. Matt black is a pain in the ass!

It's going to sound epic when done. Perhaps some Chinese bodywork in gloss black for the commute? Auctmarts has a sale on currently...It is booked in for a Woolich race tools ECU flash to sort the crap throttle mapping (all modes) and a few other bits in 2 weeks so I'll get the exhausts and de-cat on just before its due as these bikes run very lean under 6000rpm so I don't want to make it worse.

Agreed. It sounds lovely already but I've heard a mates bike with Akras / de-cat pipe fitted and it sounds incredible... should be fine with noise testing on track as well being a nice long system.I've actually thought about changing the side panels / nose cone for gloss black when I get fed up of the matte but for now its fine. I'm enjoying the relative lack of polishing at the moment!
