You must be my age then, it was a fizzy I was flying around on.
Now I feel ancient. Had my Z1000A2 in 1977. Later added Z1-R style mag wheels, Dunstall Decibel "silencers" and had Avon Roadrunners on it to aid in its wobbling and weaving at 125 mph plus. Brave lads at 19 or maybe just too stupid to know or care.

This made way for a brand new GS750 which lasted 3 weeks standard before I lobbed the entire Yoshimura catalogue at it. 844cc/cams/29mm smoothbores/Cam chain/Titanium retainers/hand bent race exhaust etc.

After that I went proddie racing on a CB400N and learnt how to really squander money. smile

Don't forget the allen screws on the engine cases :-) That seems to get the "rivet counters" twitching too

I'm not quite old enough to remember them with the 4 into 4 exhaust. In 1981 when I was whizzing around on my Kawasaki AE50 all the big boys had Zeds and GSs, nearly all had 4 into 1s the standard exhausts having long since rotted away. Nostalgia its a funny thing
You must be my age then, it was a fizzy I was flying around on.
I'm 55(just) and first few bikes went AE50, KE125, Gpz550, Gpz 900. So I never did get a big Zed back in the day hence me having one now

I remember the Z1000s coming out and I rode up to the kawasaki dealer in Edinburgh (Better Bikes) on my Z900 to see one, but didn't like the 4-2 exhausts (at that time my Z900 still sported the original 4-4s). Then the word on the street was it wasn't as quick as the Z900; probably bks, but us 900-mounted souls chose to believe it and propagate it! In the same way we had said our old 750 Commandos were quicker than the 850s...but that was true smile

I had the Z900 for maybe 4 or 5 years and then chopped it in for a used but newish Z1R that I don't think I've a photo of anywhere. I loved the wee fairing with the 2 additional gauges (fuel and ammeter IIRC) just below the screen that also lit up at night. Simple things and all that... I don't recall it being significantly quicker than the Z900, but I felt the handling was a bit more solid.

Bloody youngsters. This was me with my new Z900 in 1976 with it's 4 in to 4 exhausts (and hair, and flares). In fairness I did put on a Yoshimura 4-1 a few years later though, as well as taking off that awful UK-only huge rear mudguard. Christ I look young there...probably because I was... I've still got that jacket, but it appears to have shrunk as I can't zip it up anymore.
Cracking photo.
That it is...love the homebrew numberplate as well !

Fortunately ( I think...) I now have an offer of employment, starting a week Monday so thought id best take every opportunity to get out on the bikes while I can, ended up around Bedfordshire today.

Very nice !!

Back in 1998 I worked at one run of the mill bike shop and literally across the road was another bike shop that did mainly Jap import 400’s , trick 2 strokes and sport bikes. Threw my toys out the pram one day and left the one workshop and walked into the other, the workshop chap said I had a weeks trail and if I built a bike in that time the job was mine . That was the point he showed me to a bare frame and boxes upon boxes of bits... an RZ500 stripped to the last nut and bolt, engine included.

Got it running and sorted through , and had a pleasant 20mile blast on it, ya know, to clear the carbon

Cracking looking bike cool

For TVRolet
Some of my evolution of road bikes.

Your Z900

My Z1-R & Little Brother on his Italjet 50cc. I would be around 20 at this point.

Many more passed through my hands in SA but back in UK again I had these two.

Decided on a brand new bike. Owned her 9yrs

Also had one of these at the same time. Sold it but have since bought another one.

and finally the bike that gets chosen 9 times out of 10 for most ride outs. Now 62. So a condensed 40yrs of road bikes.

Nice (but horrifically slow) ride out the other weekend.

Filled her up £1.75.

Went out following day and it started having fuel issues! So currently looking at what is wrong with her!

Nice photo opportunity, however the vision behind has a puncture, waited for the rest of the 50cc crew to turn around and help out:

Met up with a friend yesterday purely to blag a go on his Tuono.
Christ alive its fast and so more more usable on the road.

Only saving grace is I don't think it's worth 2 RSVRs so I'll be keeping the twin... For now

I've just got back from seeing the 1198's replacement. I'm putting my money where my mouth is with the whole 'having more fun with less power' thing, and I've only had a 30 minute ride on the base model and couldn't stop laughing (even in rural 40 limits). Looking forward to some jacket and jeans biking – and riding a type of bike I'd never usually have considered, but hey… you only live once! Pick it up next weekend…

Give over, you're not that old. Besides, you've done some cool stuff over the years, I love seeing your old photo's and hearing about the stuff you got up to.

I'm not blowing smoke up your arse, just saying it how I see it, you come across as damn humble too. smile

Bryan. It's time we saw a wheelie picture of that RD 500 man.

P.S.

I'm up at Peterborough tomorrow, if you live that way I'd happily do a wheelie on the RD, its 31 years since I owned mine.

Dragged the bike out after not riding for a few months. I should ride it more to be honest, it’s great!
