A picture a day...biker banter (Vol 5)
Discussion
I just think it's great that the police have cleared up all the offences which put other road users at risk so they can focus on these sort of issues.
I will feel safer on the roads knowing Pothole has received a £100 FPN, and justice has finally been served against the incorrectly type-faced numberplate wielding maniac.
Jesus wept, if I was a police officer I'd be fking embarrassed at the the prospect of putting this in public domain.
On the plus side Pothole, your bike will look much better now.

Anyone planning to be out and about in Matlock and environs, make sure you and your bike are fully compliant and legal...
The law on plates really is a complete ass.It used to be pretty simple. Vehicle post 1972, yellow plate.
Then some prick in Westminster screwed it up so that you could put black plate on any vehicle as it turned 40 years old.
Seven years later, another prick in Westminster spotted the cock up and corrected it, but cocked up the correction.
So you can now have a black plate on any 1973-79 vehicle. Where's the sense in that? The present law neither reinstates the original position nor reflects the rolling entitlement to the historic taxation and MOT exemption that arrives when a vehicle turns 40 years old.
Personally, I think that a black plate on any post 1972 vehicle looks daft. But not as daft as the police enforcing such a badly thought out and incompetently drafted law.

I agree the law is poorly thought out and largely unnecessary given the level of ANPR technology available now - The plate was no impediment. I have no issue with enforcement thereof, especially as it applied to me. The copper didn't male the law, he was just doing his job - and was friendly and jovial with it. I was unlucky in a sense that no "power rangers" (his words) were giving it the stupid in the opposite direction over the half mile he was behind me or he'd have swiftly U-turned and done them instead, or so he said.It used to be pretty simple. The video TMF did a few months ago, out with motorcycle Cops in North Wales, they stopped and went after a little group of motorcyclists going in the opposite direction. They weren't 'power rangers' and I am not sure they were really pressing on. Perhaps it was a case of 'We've seen you, take it easy', and try to counter any peer group pressure resulting in sillier riding and speeds? I guess there's value in engaging if it's a group of riders possibly over the limit in an area where it's a known issue?Edited by carinaman on Monday 30th August 12:04

Pothole - Rebel without a clue! surely the correct answer is to put a legal plate on, or are you one of those people who has to 'rebel' and show how free-minded you are?
Can't wait to see what you put on next
It's always brilliant to see our brave force dealing with serious crime and skulduggery, making the streets safer for everyone. Can't wait to see what you put on next
what a joke
Do you not get a rectification notice or whatever they are called, Pothole?
Fingers crossed for you. After ThankYouForCalling's exploits I'm not sure I can cope with another incarceration thread
I think a lot of the time they go after the small stuff in the hope of finding some big stuff - general attitude of non compliance etc.....

Not any more, straight to reporting/FPN. My attitude was perfect, no point in it not being. Bike also in great condition, registered to me, taxed and insured. Licence registered to my current address same as the bike. Fingers crossed for you. After ThankYouForCalling's exploits I'm not sure I can cope with another incarceration thread

I was out and about around Matlock Bath early this morning, saw couple of Police but going in the opposite direction to me and (fortunately) was just pottering along at the time enjoying the views so got left alone.

If you want a legit small(ish) plate, the DVLA will be happy to take £399 from you in return for a 6-digit Northern Irish plate containing I and 1.
If I could find one with decent, "relevant" letters and numbers I might be tempted.Edited by carinaman on Monday 30th August 18:03
