^ And why have you got that extra nut on the bolt?
There's no reason for that unless the bolt is too long and hits something?
Look again. The bolt is too long and would hit the air screw without the nut reducing its depth.

You look again.

That's why I wrote; "unless the bolt is too long and hits something?"
Besides which it would not "hit the air screw" but simply block access.

Can't believe you two are getting so aggro over a bloody bolt!

Could it be a piece of threaded bar rather than a bolt, hence needing two nuts to be able to tighten sufficiently?

Listen M8, leave these two nuts to it, bolt.

I think it's very important we ascertain why Vietnamese people use specific nut/bolt arrangements on budget scooters. Thousands of miles away...

Is anyone else as childish as me and still find the currency hilarious?

Personally I'd ignore the "000"s nomenclature, and pay for everything in "MegaDongs".

I'd love to do something like this someday!

I'm going to Philippines around march to visit the in laws and will be looking to rent a bike over there, if anyone has experiences/hints for there I would appreciate it! I rented a Honda XR200 before which was good fun, will need to check if they are still around.

Looking forward to more updates.

Yes, I spent two weeks there sniggering in every shop, restaurant and bar.

Just to clear this up, yes the bolt is too long and fouls the air screw, hence the extra nut to reduce its effective length wink

Anyway, we're off to Monkey Island Sunday am if you're up for a spirited run... it's SE of HCM an nearly dead opposite to Vung Tau.
Quick early am blast there, coffee and run back...

256 km to Dalat including some running around whilst here today. Total at 1673km

The road here was the best so far. Kept off the main roads and the first 150km or so was beautiful winding mountain passes, and the last 70km more akin to greenlaning hehe

Main things from the journey that I noticed were the huge coffee plantations and the deep red dust from the soil. I imagine it may be volcanic? It was my longest journey so far and took just under 8 hours, although this did include stopping to buy myself some fishing tackle from a small village shop. One more thing to creatively mount to the scooter.

Who needs Shimano when you can have YOLO Performation Fashion Reel hehe

As a side note, today I was also chased by a dog on a dirt road which wasn't the most pleasant of experiences

150km to Nha Trang, total now 1823km.

Nice easy ride today as Im still suffering from a 2 day hangover. Got another puncture 5km away from the hostel though where an old repair gave way. New inner tube 80,000 dong (£2.60)

On leaving Dalat I also saw a nice MZ for sale which is right up my street.

It was in budget, but the lack of front brake pads and the fact that the mechanic said they were not available turned me off hehe

They don't even mention the thousands when they talk about payment, if its 35,000 dong, they just say thirty-five.

The rich red roads are called Laterite roads and the colour comes from the high content of iron oxide.
Not formed by volcanic activity but erosion and chemical weathering from parent sedimentary rocks, always found in tropical countries.

Great pictures and write-up. clap
