I get why everybody loves these bikes but I've always (probably irrationally) hated them with a passion. It's a bit of a nothing bike and I certainly wouldn't be spending £2300 on one, especially on that wasn't absolutely perfect.

For that money you could buy a 2010/ 2011 Suzuki SV650S. Some people might say the CBR600F is better, but you can't argue with a decade newer for the same money...
You said it - irrationally, like in very.
2011 vs 2002-2007? Not much difference at all.
The suspension on 600F4i is fully adjustable.
The throttle response is smooth.
The power is more than enough for fun.
The comfort is perfect (handlebars above tripple clamp, comfortable seat, proper fairings). Honda built quality.

For me the SV650S is the nothing bike, even though I am fond of Suzuki (GSXR).

Mines an 03 plate I’ve had my license 15 yrs. you just can’t go wrong with a cbr600.

It’s kinda like the golf of the bike world I think ?
Good to hear... I have a golf lol

Someone I know has a really good 2000-ish model that he’s the second, very anal owner of, and is open to a sale. Another friend, ex CBR6 owner reckons at 185cm I’ll find it too small. I don’t reckon so, but any truth?
I'm 185, I do not find it too small at all...I did change the suspension and raised it about 20mm front and back though. I wanted to sit higher and I wanted something fresh and suitable to my weight (105kg fully geared). Stock suspension is made for 75kg Japanese

Having gone from a 600F to a SV i would say go for the 600F. The SV is newer but so what? It offers nothing over the 600F whilst feeling a lot cheaper, and the F is noticeably faster.

One of the best bikes I've ever owned - from new 1991. It was wonderful and could tour/commute/race whatever. Highly recommended. Those white wheels were a pain to keep clean though!

Set up for the UK and Europe market, as you say though 75kgs, not seen many Japanese that weight smile

Passed a month ago, got this pretty much right away. Did my research for around a month before hand and knew I wanted a 600F. It's been a brilliant choice.

This is a 1992 (F2) with 19k, which I got for a grand:

I bought my first bike (2006 cbr600f) january 2017 on 25k, and its been faultless. Great fun, easy to ride at low rpm but still has enough power from 7k+. I replaced the Cam Chain Tensioner, as it was making noise, but thats all I have had to do other than the obvious oil changes, air filter etc.

Had a 2003 F4i German market UK import - so ran a Cat and lambda sensor in the exhaust UK ones didn't at the time - owned by a mate before me - he'd fitted a PC3 with a standard exhaust map which gave literally another 20miles to a tank of fuel since they ran so rich standard. Also fitted the dynojet O2 eliminator read resistor to cut out the closed loop emissions cycle from the ECU and stop it messing with the PC3.
Only thing wrong with the bike ever was cam chain tensioner, so it got very rattly around 5k revs.. swopped out for a newer spec Honda replacement.

I also had an F4i CBR6. It was a nice bike, although it did need to be flogged to get it to move.

Although I prefer it to an SV, it's not all one way. Up until 9k, the SV has noticabely more punch. So you basically have to go down at least one more gear on the CBR to overtake and also slip the clutch more pulling away. Keep the CBR above that though and it's obviously quicker.

Suspension is also miles better than the cheap crap on an SV.

I loved this about the CBR6, it was addictive wringing its neck and keeping it in the powerband. Something I actually missed when I went on to a 1000cc, where my riding got a bit lazy.

That always blows my mind, I ride lazy on a 600 and it still feels fast enough - When people comment about how big the difference is on a 1000 I just cant imagine it (my 600 is the fastest thing I have ridden).

More like ~45lbs ft torque for a 600. 50-60 is in the 675 - 750cc range and feels much more punchy.

Yeah sure. I rode a friends first gen R6 whilst I had the CBR. It was much better everywhere to be honest. More go even low down and it loved to rev. Quicker steering, better brakes, suspension etc.. The first models weren't much more inclined either.

Prett sure the CBR600F fully adjustable suspension stopped ~2005 in UK market.

That just means a whole new chapter of excitement awaits you. Those of us that are desensitised to big power have no next chapter. frown

This. On a 1000 you can come out of a corner in what would be totally the wrong gear on a 600, and just wind on the throttle and make brisk progress, where you'd be stamping down the box on a 6. They do make you lazy. Riding a 1000 like you would a 600 is probably best kept on track.
