When attempting what should have been a quick job changing my brake pads earlier, one of the caliper pins wouldn't budge..using various ham fisted techniques I have now rounded off the head.

I'm picking up a new pin tomorrow but I still have the offending pin stuck in the caliper.

Any ideas of how to get it out? It's a 1998 Honda 600 hornet with the 2 pot nissin calipers.

I thought I may end up having to drill it out but I don't want to ruin the caliper. I also have some screw-outs/easyouts but have never used them before ?

Thanks for any help 😊

Does it have a split pin on the other end?

Assuming it's an allen headed pin, hammer a torx bit into it and turn it. They're like easy outs for shallow holes!

Otherwise, mole grips from the inside like they said.

Hmm tricky.... is it one of these:

Try the above definately first before you're too committed !

If you can get the caliper off then you could maybe cut the pin and try drilling out - a pilot hole first and then use a reverse drill bit would be good as the chances are it will comes loose and begin to unwind.

Otherwise, beg borrow or steal a welder:

Good luck thumbup:

Af Allen key may be a better fit than metric, or Impact driver with Allen bit

If it is one of those pins I drilled the head out of one the BSB superstock Kawasakis ZX10 front caliper (not Akys) and then turned it out with a screwdriver.

Sounds harder than it is.

Replace with stainless and use loads of copper grease.

This is what I hate about diy on anything someone else has worked on before. Those should just be nipped up at 11 ft/lb and almost come off with fingers.

If you need the bike I’d have a plan b of another calliper off eBay ready to go.

Also, when cracking them always make sure your hex is a snug fit...I've had cheap sets in the past that were very loose so a high chance of rounding.

It’s a threaded pin with an Allen head yes? Same as on a VFR800.

I’d second the approach of hammering a Torx or larger Allen bit in with an impact driver, also application of a bit of heat to free things up. All easier to do if the caliper is off the bike in a vice, but that entails removing it, which probably doesn’t align with the quick job you were hoping for. Good luck!

I tried the torx bit but it just rounded off the bolt. Will try the mole grips in the morning.

Cheers

Cheers Vince, much appreciated but I wish I was mate, unfortunately I live in the dreary West Midlands..
