I agree it’s a lot to take in doing it all at once, but for me with zero previous bike experience I think it was the best option. Problem being if you go a while without being on a bike it all feels strange and like starting over again. I did CBT, then 3 days DAS training and MOD 1 on the 4th day. Passed that first time but fluffed my MOD 2 and had to wait two weeks for a retest. Actually had a great ride and passed but it felt strange after two weeks and I wasn’t confident at all.

I did my DAS back in December. 2 day CBT one weekend, then a few weeks later I did a 5 day course. Really great school up in Royston - BMW Rider Training I think they were called. Really good standard of instructors, really good tuition. 4 on my DAS - 2 men, 2 women. Both men failed! One dropped the bike on the Mod 1, the other failed Mod 2. Both girls passed smile Bucking the stats trend !

Personally I found it worked well, but I've had a driving license for about 20 years and have done a lot of advanced road training in the car. I don't see why it wouldn't work for most people, then I went out and bought a bike within about 3-4 weeks and got on with it. It's helped having a partner who's into bikes and very patient !

I guess it really depends on the school and the quality of tuition, and how well you respond to that sort of intensive learning. I found it quite tiring even though the days were probably 9-3ish (due to the light), still a lot to take in and learn. But it gets it all done and dusted in a week.

The risk is that if you fail Mod 1, which we did on the Wednesday, you're screwed for Mod 2 on the Friday as you have to wait 3 working days before reapplying I think.
Also did my DAS at this venue.

Fantastic training. Brummie Dave was a good laugh and got stricter as the week went on so there was time to get comfortable on a bike before the pressure was ramped up.

They also have a G310 on a rolling road so you can get used to throttle, clutch and leaning in 100% safety.

If I had to do my training again I'd definitely do DAS and although it's a long way from home I'd strongly consider going to Royston again!

Dave did my DAS too ! Very tall chap and a really good guy! Did my CBT with Dougie. The problem I had was automatically applying advanced driving theory / practise to a motorbike. Which won't get you through your test, and isn't always appropriate for a motorbike! I've booked on a Bike Safe day in a few weeks to start looking at that, now I'm getting a bit more familiar with a motorbike (not much tbh and mine is big and heavy but I'm getting there).

I had to get an AirBnB to stay up there as it's about 2 hours from home, but was well worth it. Had a quick go on the rolling road which they were just finishing building at the time - very strange. Was my first time on a motorbike and it's odd.

Day 1 was a full day CBT. The last CBT I did was over in a morning. The group was mixed. One of the participants was a 16/17 year old who seemed intent on doing the whole day baked off his head on pot. In fairness he did offer me some but as I was receiving motorcycle training I politely declined biggrin

^This

Whether you have 1 or 2 or 4 learners, finishing the training curriculum as laid down by the DVSA in a morning is impossible.

So, if your CBT really was over this quickly, this company broke statute law and are a bunch of cowboys.

As for them turning a blind eye to a kid on drugs - shame on them as well.

Yep, a proper CBT should take more than half a day, however as I’d been through it before and done lots of biking already a whole day on the YBR125 was a bit annoying especially since I have lots of experience on little bikes and basically none on anything with more than 250cc.
As for the baked 16 year old, it was incredibly obvious and I clocked it when he first arrived in the morning (late, obviously). He’d obviously literally just smoked a strong spliff before he walked in. The guy running the thing seemed none the wiser. When we went to the training area one of the kid’s mates showed up on a scooter and hung around for the rest of the day. When the instructor was off doing the road section of the assessment with one of the other participants they both rolled and smoked one. I fail to comprehend how the instructor couldn’t have noticed he was baked all day but it had no impact on me and I didn’t think they were really a danger to anybody but themselves so I just left them to it. They were an amusing side show, and if I’d flagged it up it could’ve interrupted my own training.

CBT to direct access pass with a clean sheet in 8 days October 2000

It was after a 7 year break which followed 11 years in all weather pretty much every day on L's in London, and South coast/Isle of Wight, Greater London.

Get it all done, ask for additional lessons, and if you have a bike on L's now get out in all weather possible especially if you have no previous L experience.

If you have no experience even of pushbikes which in my opinion is the best underpinning you can have before doing this, get even more lessons, even if you feel confident, and find a school that gets you out of town. Keep taking training whether from friends or courses.

The people I went with got us out to Llangollen, ace! (Merseyside Aprilia)

I did CBT then had a two month or so wait for a theory test slot.
After the theory it was three days of lessons and mod 1&2 on the fourth day.
all in was around £750 I think.

On the three days of lessons it was just me and the instructor on day one and, on days two and three there were only two of us and the instructor.

DAS should always be max instructor plus 2 people.

i vividly recall a well known m/c trg company originating from a very well known university town continually flaunt day 1 and sometimes 2 of DAS getting all the students to ride on 125cc's in groups of 4 and call it a 'booster day'. well, actually no. its das. its not a booster day.

this practice was/is totally and utterly illegal but dvsa and cbt section simply dont have the resources to witness and close down this malpractice.
