Hi all, I've been on the lookout for a 981 Boxster S and the perfect car has come up not too far from me.

The problem is it has the multi function wheel which I'm not keen on. How much cost am I looking at to swap to a sport design wheel?

Thanks

I too am looking for an S or GTS and asked about swapping the wheel for a sport design. It’s £1,200 and Silverstone have been waiting 5 weeks for one to arrive. Apparently only available in black too, so no good if the car has red interior

Good grief. The Sport Design one is a lovely thing and the multi-function one, well... a bit scensorede

I had one fitted to my 987 S it was pennies of £2k but that was including a new airbag as mine didn’t fit.

It looks and feels superb.

Well worth it...when I bought my 997 GTS I got OPC Silverstone to fit the Sport Design wheel before I picked it up

Need a few extra parts if going from Multi Function to sport design as also need the stalk that controls the right screen instead of track wheel on MF wheel.

Better option is to do what I did and get a 718 (982) MF steering wheel. Loads on eBay. Plug and play with the correct canbus adapter and looks even better than the old Sport Design wheel with the added benefit of keeping the MF buttons.

Sport design does look so much better IMO I have it both my Cayman & 911. A few years back I was close to buying a gen1 Pano, at the time Leeds OPC were prepared to swap the multi function for a sport design as part of my deal. Worth asking if you find the car that suits.

I’ve just bought a Boxster S from Porsche Reading and as part of the deal requested the wheel to be swapped for a Sport Design. I was told they’re on back order for 6 months so will look for alternatives, it appears Design911 list them so will give them a call when I collect the car. I’m also going to look into the option of fitting a 718 wheel as mentioned above.

Recently paid £580 for a barely used alcantara sportdesign wheel with paddles off eBay for my 997.2 replacing a multifunction wheel. My OPC quoted around £850 fitted for a leather one and it was on back order. It was fairly straightforward to fit, lots of useful videos online.

Really pleased with the results both aesthetically and functionally. Even though I do not hate the pdk buttons, the paddles are just so much inituitve to use.

I’ll keep an eye out on EBay, Porsche Reading quoted £925 for the wheel plus 90 mins labour to fit.
