Hi

I have been searching around on the net for a recommendation for an ECU or auto gearbox remap.

I'm aware a remap won't turn this car into a rocket but would like to make it a more responsive and nippy.

Does anyone have any experience with remapping this car? I read from my googling that BM Chiptune in Middlesex are good.

thanks for your help

I've just bought an E91 325i with the N52 engine.

From what I have read you'd get more "bang for your buck" by replacing it with a 330i.

A map doesn't add much on a naturally aspirated straight 6 petrol engine - whatever tuners may tell you!

The 125i coupe has a detuned/strangled 3 litre N52, P-Torque (based in West Midlands) do a re-map that takes it from 218 bhp back to 130i levels of about 265 BHP. I had it done and it made a huge difference to the car.

Might be worth asking them if they can do the same for the 325i, I seem to re-call it's not possible but I don't know why.

I seem to remember that the N52 in the 325i has a different intake to the N52 used in the 330i, or something similar? So not just a map.

Mdavids thanks for the advice. Are you talking about turbo or normally aspirated engine?

The N52 is N/A. Normally you'd never get that kind of increase out of a re-mapped N/A but BMW had deliberately de-tuned the 3 litre N52, apparently to give a bigger gap between the 125i and the 135i coupe, there was never a 130i coupe and the 130i hatch was dis-continued by this point.

There are no physical differences between the N52 as used in the 130i and 125i, it's all software, biggest difference being VANOS timing I believe.

No, the N52 in the 325i has only 2,497cc, whereas the 330i has 2,996cc. It needs another 500cc!

The N53 engined 325i has a 3 litre engine, so maybe that can be tuned to match an N53 330i.

I've definitely read about the 125i being mapped, because it uses a 3 litre N52 but the E9* 325is don't.
