Charge Surface Pro on a flight?

Hi,
I will be using my Surface Pro on a flight to Mexico. I'm flying economy so presumably will not have a standard socket to charge it so I'm wondering if anybody knows a way to charge it via USB (or would power provided not be sufficient?) Thanks

Would they power a Pro, my only experience of these before has been the small ones for a mobile phone?

Was on a flight recently to Canada, in Economy, and they had power sockets available (Boeing 787)

Person next to me was working on a Surface Pro for the whole 7 hr flight, plugged into the onboard power - worth checking if your flight will have mains power available (and what socket type they might have)

Most transatlantic flights will have power, but depends on the carrier and plane - look it up on seatguru. If it does have a socket it is unikely to take a UK plug, so get a US travel adapter. Power wise if it is there it should power the surface no problem - they are relatively low consumption (<100w).

A lot of carriers forbid powerbanks and the like, so check before going down this route. Otherwise the surface should be good for 6hrs+ on battery anyway, so make sure you go on with a full charge.

Who are you flying with and can you tell from your booking what plane you'll be on (777/787 etc); most big name carriers now give you USB power across all classes, especially if it's a newer (say in the last 5 years or so) plane. The airline website should tell you if it's available on your flight.

I wanted a Windows laptop that could be charged by a solar panel or bog standard power bank and went with a 5V 2 in 1 Asus T100 in the end. It's pretty rubbish but the ability to charge with anything was more important.

It's weird how variable stuff like this is and how many poxy machines are 19v when they don't need to be. Gaming laptop, yes. Some ultra mobile power sipper, no.

Cheers guys, I will speak to Thomas Cook tomorrow to see what type of plane we will be flying in and then check on SeatGuru. I will also charge it in the lounge prior to boarding so I'm assuming there will be just enough life in the battery by the time I've had snooze and a few drinks on the plane etc. Thanks again

Do you need to be on it for the whole flight? What about a book or two?

turn the screen brightness down
switch off the wifi-some wifi modems keep hunting for signals
use wired ear buds over bluetooth
