Hi Guy's,

I'm dutch and interested in this LHD 390se and I'm asking your help on this ad: https://www.autoscout24.fr/offres/-9ba2585d-d8fd-1...

The year is not right, its possibly 85 of 86 from the look of the fenders.
Are the vents in the front hood Original when its an 85 of 86?
Can you judge wether the interior is Original.

Is there a 390se registry somewhere?

thanks!

Xander (from Holland)

My 390SE is from 1986 and has the same louvred bonnet, but a single large rear exhaust pipe rather than twin pipes. Looks to be quite straight. What is the engine number? Cheers.

Thanks!

My French is not too well.
I will ask tomorrow using google translate, because the last thing in the French part of Belgium is someone asking a question in Dutch :-)

It must be an earlier car. The dash is the same layout as my US spec 280i.

Not necessarily. I´d assume TVR were just their practical selves.

Check the dash in the link above. The layout seem legit.

That said, the indicator arrows...

Hello Xander, I know somebody not far from where i live who wants to sell his 390 in quite good condition and perfect running or
der and lhd of course.
I beleive it to be less expensive if you want, I can contact him for you, I speak a bit of Dutch but he doesn't.
Send me a PM next tuesday because I am on Holiday. I also have to check if it is still for sale.
regards,
Christian.

It doesn't seem to have the flared bits on the front and back of the sill blending into the front and rear wheel arches. But does have the flare blending into the front of arch from the front spoiler. However the very early cars had this front flare as part of the front spoiler. Front spoiler is 390se.

Could be a crossover between models/years but would check the engine number.

Same as Keith's, my 390 also has the single ex pipe.

That said, on a TVR none of this proves anything wink

I will, thanks
I'm looking for a pre 88 because of higher taxes in Holland when first registration is after 1-1-1988 .

I dont mind speaking French, but as my French is not to well I dont feel comfortable speaking it on the Phone.

THat remionds me of a tussle I had 'back in the day' with the TVR Centre Barnet (OK to name and shame now???) where they supplied a front spoiler that didn't have 'cow horns' for my 350i, that eventually had to be sent back (the horns being the extra bits going up around the wheelarch). I think I ended up rebuilding the original one, it was easier that way....

Thanks all for your help!
hmm..no answer from dark green yet..

The front and rear spoiler seem to be the only optical differences between 390se en 350i.
Are the 390se spoilers for sale somewhere as after-market in care they are damaged?

btw. I read that the 390SE rear suspension is the same as 350i, so the improved A-frame should be mounted from mid 1986?

Some early 390SE had trailing arm suspensionNot sure when they were fitted with A frame but should imagine a late 85 car would have...

So its possible to have a 390SE with an Andy Rouse engine AND an A frame?
that would be a desirable combination.

If it was an '83 car should it not have the earlier rear lights?

Must admit, from the brochures I still have and my own car back in the 80's, I thought all genuine 390's had A-frame rear suspension?

No, first ones had the trailing arm - or so I seem to recall based on what I've read so far. Can't comment from personal experience as I only have 350i's.

There is an early white one with an Andy Rouse engine (84 or 85) for sale on Facebook where the trailing arm is photographed.

Yes, just checked a 390SE road test from 1986 and it says that car had A-frame suspension, but the earlier ones didn't. My memory from 30 years ago obviously isn't perfect rolleyes
