Hi All

I have seen on US sites that a number of features can be turned on for E93 using cheap wireless OBD connector and a phone app. The one that interests me most is the digital speedo in the central dash display as i have this in another car and far prefer it for seeing speed quicker the the analogue dial. Carly seems to be the one that is best for BMW, however it is pricey compared to some other stuff on EBay but not sure what will actually work. Has anyone got real life experience of doing this and what kit to buy?

Thanks in advance!

Carly or Carista are the easiest options.

I used Carista and activated the uncorrected (GPS) digital speedo, but kept the dials standard. Great for showing the difference between them actually!

Be aware that Carly is now £59.00 PER YEAR now.

Those like me that bought it before April, I got mine a couple of years ago then those folk get to upgrade for life to the pro version for free.

if you’re near me (n. Manchester), I’ve got carly & (NCS expert/Inpa too). Happily do it for you - takes about 2 minutes.

I got the feeling that this is an expensive option, especially as you have to keep paying now so probably not worth it for me.

I am going to try this route as the module is £16 on amazon and the app looks like it is free!

Correction!!! £10 for a 1 week pass when you need it. that works for me as i will just buy it when i need it.

Many thanks mchoody, but i Just bought one on Amazon. it comes with 1 month free trial of the paid software option which means total cost is £15.99 including customisation options. After that it allows basic diagnostics unless you pay the 9.99 for a weeks usage. If i run into trouble i will PM you as your not far away at all.

thanks again. Love the help and advice from this forum!

Job Done! Digital speedo active. Note for anyone who is going to use Carista. You only get the free trial if you sign up for the 1y subscription and then remember to cancel. I decided on a 8.99 1 week pass Total outlay £25) as I am unlikely to do much more with it short term and would forget to cancel. seems to work well. Anyway, total cost £25 and I have something that can read all my fault codes. I am guessing i will be able to re code the a new battery also if ever i need to.

Tried it on my VW UP! and Focus but there is little that you can change on the VW and its not compatible with the Focus. No need to mess with my 997 as it has so many configurable items via the PCM that I can't think of anything I would want to change that I can't already.

Thanks again for the the offers of help and advice.

I've got Carly as well, must have had it a couple of months at least. Can you confirm what you mean by the above? It is asking me to update to the new app when I open it. If I do this, will I have to pay a yearly subscription or do I get the pro version for life. (I'm sure when I paid it said I'd get lifetime updates for free?)

http://www.mycarly.com/migration/

It wants you to download the new version and run that one, the other one you need to uninstall which I have just reminded myself to do later.

Well that's the way I read it and did it but it is possible the process is now just an update now though.

Everyone who bought Carly (and Carista) before a certain date get the full version for free with no subscription fee. Anything after the cut off date is an annual subscription.

Both the old version and the new version seem to do exactly the same on my phone which is a little confusing
