Italian designed a Japanese bike...and did a pretty terrible job of it, imho.

Thanks for the link... had the presentation running on my second monitor biggrin.

Can't see what is special about the Katana tbh after all the talk by the chap from Suzuki. Fancy presentation aside no mention of anything new or anything at all about the engine.

Agreed, lots of marketing visions and fk all about the bike. So is it a turbo thing? Is it a GSX-S in a fancy frock? Vely disappoint.

I like it a lot...

215kg kerb weight isn't too bad, though possibly at the expense of range, it only has a 12L fuel tank!

What don't I get...? Why is everyone excited about an 80s faired z1000?

Honestly think they need to see what Kawasaki did with the Z900RS to get an idea of what a retro bike needs to be. Slapping on some plastic bits is not enough.

Will be at Intermot tomorrow and was looking forward to this bike. Now not so much anymore. I have the feeling it could've been so much more.

The original Katana was a street bike, a styling exercise on an otherwise honest contemporary engine (I accept it was the fastest mass production motorbike at the time and turned to racing - but given the performance of bikes now, it would be expensive and pointless at 200+bhp and would never have the aerodynamics to match!). It was never a super slick exotic.

This will no doubt have a humble price and be a very nice honest fine bike. It has fully adjustable suspension, without all the bling and fanfare, I suspect it will make a great road bike. It feels personalised and a bit special since it isn't a parts bin special, rather using very specific manufactured parts, the styling is fresh when so many bikes look the same today, touches like the Katana logo on the speedo etc set it above the GSX-S. It's not trying to be retro, rather a modern take paying homage to its heritage. It's certainly a lot better than the travesty that followed the iconic Katana with that awful scooter and the other blobby POS tributes.

It has very respectable power and what looks to be a very comfortable riding position. What's not to like?

Ok, they could almost re-release the original Katana and it would still be uber cool but that is the same for many bikes from that golden period, like the 5 number limited units Yoshimura did but look at the cost of that!

A 750 with a pop up light would be cool also please!

+1 I think that looks the business.

I have never owned a Suzuki but would change it for that.

That's a joke, unless it does 70mpg, my MT09 only has 14 litres and that is a pain in the arse with the flashing lights of doom regularly coming on after 90 miles.

The Suzuki is quite a cool looking bike though.

They haven't advised mpg yet, however the same power output GSX-S1000 puts out 53.3mpg which on the Katana's 2.6 gallon tank is 138.5 mile tank range on a good day I'm guessing unless the new exhaust improves on that.

My Tuono only does 115 miles on an 18L tank to absolutely empty, so it's an improvement on that lol!

I think it could do with a longer screen as the bars look high in relation to the front fairing. Looking forward to test riding this when it arrives.

I think GSX-S1000 looks better.

yes The bars look plain silly sticking out the top IMO (reminds me of Judge Dredd bike), a longer screen could help. Also wondering how they managed to make it slightly heavier than the GSXS1000, despite the miniscule tank (a killer for some people I suspect) and less bodywork?

The live launch stated 10 new bikes are to be announced for the 2019 model year, so we had the Katana, revised GSX-R1000/1000R
the A2 licence compliant GSX-S750 and a new RMZ250, so it looks like 6 new models for the EICMA show in Italy next month.

So the New Hayabusa, the rumoured 700cc twin "Recursion" Turbo bike, We expect to see a GSX-R1000RR with adaptive suspension to fully compete with the equivalent Yamaha, BMW and Kawasaki models and then rehashes of existing models.

Could be worse......

My first impression is that looks like a smaller bike on top of a bigger bike.

I did own a 750 Katana with the pop up headlight back in the day.

Liked the looks but could not get on with the then fashionable 16ins wheels front and rear.

They not bothering with the adventure market then?

I like KTM and Ducati, these Suzuki’s are a load of old tosh, nothing new.

After a good read of the Suzuki website, I'm not really any the wiser as to what type of bike this is. Why would I not just get a GSXR?

I can't decide if I like the looks or not. Looks good from the front but the side view reminds me of a jetski trying to bum a motorbike.

The full power models (like mine) have an 18” rear. Greater choice of race rubber at the time. The Aus market and the original 25 UK bikes (offered to Heron as thy missed the boat to Australia) got them, along with 90bhp and rear indicator stalks which was the main giveaway of these versions.

Nice, but the tank is too small and the bars are too high. Something to split the difference between the GSX-S and GSX-R would nave been nice.
