New Suzuki at the Intermot Show
Discussion
If the tank size is the only issue then I think Suzuki have done a good job myself, it's 12 litres or 2.6 gallons in old moneywhich at 45 mpg (based on real riding of a GSX-S1000) that's about 120 miles to a tankful or two hours on our roads, no big deal imo. obviously Suzuki wanted to make the tank shape
as close to the original Katana as possible so capacity suffered, i've spoken to two colleagues who where at the unveiling in Germany yesterday and they say apart from the number plate mount the bike's a stunner.

Totally agree. I don't have any issue with a manufacturer selling motorcycles that I don't personally like, especially if it helps them fund motorcycles I do.
A spade remains a spade however.
I'd reserve final judgement until the road tests come out, it's just very difficult to see how they're going to produce an objectively decent motorcycle when they're undertaking such significant compromises like range, just so they can emulate some, frankly, outdated styling. That sort of engineering brief really doesn't bode well for the overall final product does it?
Also that 150bhp engine, despite Suzuki's website being keen to mention the fact it's derived from the "detuned K5 GSXR", it is presumably the one already fitted to the GSX-1000. Suzuki's marketeers have decided when telling you about their product, to ignore the reference to a current bike it's fitted to (probably on the basis it is a bit beige and they want this new product to sound exciting), and have instead decided to reference a thirteen year old bike it was never actually fitted to. That to me tells me even Suzuki think the engine can't stand up by itself, and typical Suzuki marketeers just throw some "Rs" at the product, until you like it. We all await in the GSXR-1000RRR with active suspension, I have no doubt it will be great, but don't try and say it's name infront of your dog because he'll start fking growling at you.
But hey, I've never ridden it. Perhaps I'm wrong and it's going to be amazing, but I'm just not convinced at this stage.

So it's a GSX-1000S engine, with new 1990s themed plastics and a fuel tank you can empty in under a hundred miles?
Oh.
Perhaps one for the middle-aged somethings with found memories, and too much expendible income then?
It is fun to pretend afterall.
I wonder if you would buy the bits in a package and put them onto a GSX-1000S? A Kit-Kat if you will...Oh.

Flat bars and a longer screen imho.
But it'll be interesting to see how it rides with the taller bars, I do agree they look odd though. I also think the rear seat looks too short. I could seriously see this as a bit of a commuting work horse though for me.
There's a screen option in the accessories But it'll be interesting to see how it rides with the taller bars, I do agree they look odd though. I also think the rear seat looks too short. I could seriously see this as a bit of a commuting work horse though for me.
^ Thanks very much for that, I think it'll look a lot better for it.
I saw an ebay ad for the new Katana from one of the dealers which states...
"a range of genuine accessories will include a tinted screen and coloured seat, plus carbon engine covers and coloured brake calipers"
It's great to see the pictures for it though, I haven't seen any of the accessories. Are they available to view online?
edit: I guess that's a glimpse of the coloured seat in the background with the red accents...
