One of my favourite times of the week. Buzzer updates us with another example of craftsmanship. I love this thread, all power to you sir.
Doing this stuff is (to me) impressive enough. I just love it when buzzer throws in “made a tool”... will it get to the stage the OP is making tools to make tools to make tools to make tools... and actually ends up further away from the finished product than when he started? He’ll be digging rocks out of the ground with his bare hands next, to make metal from the ores in the rocks!some more pictures... the seat came back from the trimmers, I was very pleased with the results, and its comfortable for me which is the important bit. not as comfortable perhaps as the original though!
I am getting to the stage where it all needs to be stripped down, and the frame, tank and seat painting. just a few more jobs to do...
I am very undecided what colour to do the frame and the tank and seat... suggestions welcome!

I've often thought about having a go at modifying a bike but the thought of even mentioning any mods to an insurance company fills me with dread. How do you insure something like this, are the premiums reasonable and who are you with?
over the years I have insured many modified bikes... they do load it up a bit, but not that much. I just ring around and get the cheapest... footman James, Carol Nash, Adrian Flux... just tell them what you have done.... none of my modifications tend to be for extra performance, so I tell them that....Edited to say I do have a few miles on the clock though!

playing around in Photoshop....
I’d vote red on red too. To my mind, it looks less “fussy”, so you’re not “distracted” from the rest of the bike. That seat looks a great job too, you can always tell when someone’s good at stuff like that, because it just looks right and finished, you’re not left thinking “needs xyz doing to it”.

Hi Buzzer, nice work there.
Have you considered buying a pedal for your TIG welder? It makes a world of difference to the ease of use.
so I believe... never used one, but the guy who sold it me said they are great.... its something I will consider around Christmas!Have you considered buying a pedal for your TIG welder? It makes a world of difference to the ease of use.
How about for colour scheme you do a black frame then split the tank with a black lower half then coloured top section to trick the eye into seeing a flat bottomed tank, more like a traditional café racer would have and to tie up with the seat unit?
If you want to see an example of what I mean, have a look at the Yamaha XSR900 Abarth special edition with all the carbon seat etc. you'll see the bottom of the tank done black, top in the grey colour and really makes the tank look old skool flat bottomed. Very clever. Would work well on yours but you'd need to do the frame black I think.

a little bit more progress... I am almost to the stage where I can take it all apart and have the frame powder coated. I have decided its going to be silver on the frame, the tank and seat colour can wait a while to decide.
I have finished off the fuel tank plate. there are two outlets, going to the fuel tap, so I can have a reserve position, hence the varying heights of the outlets.
that was an expensive piece of tube... £4.90! Sold to me
