As Andybow rightly said with his MT10

Pretty much all my lot ride super nakeds now for the same reasons. Long tours we stick a top box on, they all do 40-50mpg (150-200 tank range), all handle well and are comfy and all have creature comforts while doing the long rides



For the shorter (3 days or less) Normally the weekend Nurburgring events we can go soft luggage and you cant even tell its on the bike



And then you can go straight on track with them and still mix it with the sports bikes

Nope. MT09 SP is a budget bike, sprinkled with premium farkles.

MT10 is a premium sports bike (R1), watered down and cheapened to make a super naked. The SP gets back some premium bits, but for me is a bit too much money compared to the standard MT10 to be worth it. The TFT clocks are nice though.

In my view, in spite of looks, the MT10 is a very different bike to MT09 and MT07.

Ride them both though as we are just voices on the internet!!
Cheers all for the feedback. I will do just that in the new year. Ride both and see what I like best

Not saying I will end up with a MT but i've liked them for a while and they intend to be my first choice to look into

When touring, fuel range has to be a factor - it doesn’t have to be 300miles; but I have done long tours on my 1098R which does 120/tank at best, and fuel range has been an issue(!). It isn’t about “getting off the bike is good after 100 miles”, but it is more the issue of “there is no fuel stop in range before the tank runs dry” when you find yourself in the middle of some great twisties somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
What is the MT10’s range? Is it going to be much better than an R1? The V4 Tuono is also thirsty.

And then there is the issue of saddle comfort. And that means suspension also needs to be adjustable for the extra luggage weight, and better than budget as you will find on the MT09.

With a budget of 8k, I don’t actually think there are that many good options, unless you are willing to compromise on several things.

Very comfortable for slow cruising, but underpowered and not able to turn up the wick if needed. Big (tall) bike too which does not fit the OP’s requirements.

The H2 fuel light will show between 80-90 miles not matter how gentle you ride. So I would be happy with a realistic 150 mile tank range.

Why I was originally looking at the Tracer GT, mainly for price, Heated comfort seat, Heated grips and big screen.
Budget I can be realistically 10k+ or 15K+ but I don't really want to spend to much on it. Mainly as I have a car I will be looking at in the New Year when it's officially released at the detroit motor show wink

As I have spotted a R1200RS and been looking at them since the bike show I have a test ride booked for the 5th Jan.

will report back after the test ride

On a tour summer 2018 riding within group my mate and I were averaging 240km (150 miles) before the reserve light was coming on and could stretch another 30 on reserve before it was on fumes. He was on a woolwich mapped MT10 and I was on a standard ecu Tuono 1100

Would love to know what you think as that's one of the bikes that I'd be interested in at some point in the future to replace mine.

150 miles on a V4 1100 Tuono is impressive. When you rode at the Ring, how many miles did you get to a tank?

I will report back. having sat and looked at one I like the looks of it. It's been highly recommended by a few PH'ers and I know of one local from a BMW bike specialist which was only a few k on and 2 years old for a good price.

Try to get an extended test ride. The engine and gearbox are characterful, it can take a little while to gel with. If I had test rode my GS for 30 mins before purchasing it I wouldn't have bought it. It took a few hundred miles for it to click and then I wouldn't want to be without it.

On an R1200RS make certain that it is the Sport SE as it comes with the following over a non Sport SE :-

Heated grips
Up & Down quickshifter
ESA suspension
Multiple riding modes
ABS ?
Pannier brackets
Cruise Control

and perhaps a few more smaller things

It's the SE i'm looking at and will take my time on the test ride. I will be taking it to wales smile

Bugger. Went a dealer I have seen a nice R1200RS that I want.
Thing is when I got there my thoughts went to " Do I need another bike" ahhhh and " it's a want rather than need"

So I talked to the dealer, looked at the bike and still thinking .......ummmmm

So close yet so far.
I have the space for the bike, money and wife's said " if you want it get it" but still making me think.

Anyone else get this feeling. I'm happy to spend a few hundred on man toys and stuff for the garage but just seemed when it went to spending 10k ... on another toy. Always brought up with don't spend frivolously.

is this just me.
I'm not asking if I should get the bike. as I know it's up to me and not the internet.
Just wondering if anyone else ever thinks the same some times?

One of my work colleagues was like that. After some headaches he went to his GP who referred him to a specialist. Brain tumour, dead within three months. He didn't make 30 years old.

That's exactly how my brain works. I look at loads of bikes and think "I need one of those". After some further thinking I get to "I'd like one of those". I then look at the price, think of all the other things I could use the money for and think "It would be nice to have one of those but I don't really need it".

Finally, I sit down and consider exactly when I'd get time to ride it, what I'd do with it and why, when going to the garage ready for a ride, I'd chose it over my other bike, and think "I'd never really use it and it would just be taking up space". I then don't buy it!

That all said, for me, it's because I'm happy to ride a bike that is "good at everything" and don't look for one that is "best at one thing". A do everything bike suits my riding style, even on a single ride. As such, having two "do everything" bikes doesn't make any sense at all!
