Just out of curiosity as someone who has looked around the market at many of these bikes but is a fair bit trimmer and younger, why is no one talking about the multistrada? They look great, sound awesome and beat crusing on some grandpa wagon. Is it just the height or something else? My street triple will probably never leave me but the Ducati has me very interested and well in 8k budget reach.

Firstly, they are not the most soulful or entertaining Ducati.

Secondly, even on the Ducati forums, where they forgive a lot of 'character' the Multistradas have a lot of issues reported and complaints. Generally more annoyances than break downs, but a pain none-the-less.

Personally, having toured with Ducatis and seen/heard the Multistrada issues, I'd have a variety of ADVs and Sports tourers over a Multistrada. There's just not enough Ducati 'feel' in them to warrant the aggro - especially on something touring focused where reliability is key. The KTM 1290 Superadventure S or R, or GT are far better buys and better value if you want big BHP, v-twin character and want to avoid GS<ness>

Also OPs budget will mean a troublesome older Multistrada at best.

I think you can have fun on anything on track. But I'd suggest that as a "do all" tourer and track bike, the KTM Superduke GT really is hard to beat. It's a better tourer than anything else apart from maybe a GS, they have decent kit and decent pannier carrying ability, and decent road suspension, but on track they really are up there with some seriously quick machines. I think the easily adjustable suspension, preload and damper settings etc makes it a good option for both, ie you can ride two up withy your luggage the track on one setting, take off paniers and kit, few clicks of a switch and you are ready for track action. Not much else is as easy, and you may say, well youd take them in the van, with your tools etc, but it is so easy to switch road to track on all settings. Finally, the reason i would go for the SDGT vs something like a GS, is the tyres available. SDGT is lightweight wheels with 17 inch tyres, you can get slicks on it if you really want to, certainly all the cheap sports rubber is available. The 18 inch sizes on the adventure bikes, yes there is some bloody good rubber out there, but nowhere near the same options as in 17 inch. So if you are taking road and track, that would seal it for me.

If you can get over how ugly the fking things are, them Superduke GTs really are all the bike you will ever need, and then some. They're ridiculously quick, beautifully fuelled, sound great even as standard, have some excellent kit and pretty reliable to boot. You'd need something pretty exotic to outdo one on a track day, that's for sure, they're bonkers quick down the straights and twisties are no issue either. Off corners are a proper piss take with the 1300 odd cc v twin and traction/ decent suspension / sticky tyres.
Ugly is an understatement.

Close one eye, squint with the other, and take a few steps backwards and it’s a lot better. You probably wouldn’t worry about once you were riding it anyway.

Yes it is! Paid £8k for my SDGT in Feb with 25k on the clock at a dealers. Now allegedly worth £6k trade in with 30k on clock.

There’s not much that can compete at that price. (Maybe K1300s but they are older and more expensive at a dealer).

It’s an exception rather than normal though! With new ones at 16799,2nd hand prices should hold steady. Seem to be hovering around the 10k mark which is good news for those that bought at 10999 last year. Not everyone wants a higher mileage 2/3year old bike with no warranty when there’s others out there with next to no mileage on them

Mainly as having sat on them and their height, and issues with my hips are the main reason for not looking

I’ve not ridden the latest z1000sx but the previous one, personally I didn’t like it, it turned in weird, I know they’re v sensitive to tyres but it just didn’t feel right.
The engine felt too buzzy , on the motorway it felt like it needed another 3 gears, seeing as you’ve got a h2 I would go twin for a bit of a different engine feel, and so much better cruising even very fast cruising

The MT10 suffers extraordinarily little wind blast for a naked even without a screen. I've now got the Puig touring screen plus spoiler and its very good even on motorways for extended periods. If your commute is less than 1 hour long I'm not sure I'd bother with a screen at all.

Well after looking at Kawasaki, BMW, Yamaha, Triumph, KTM and a few more this week I'm really leaning towards the MT09 in SP form. I like the 10 but don't really want another inline 4 and was hoping to look at a different style of engine.
I did look at the Speed and Street Triple but even the new one's looked and felt when sitting on them to be no different that my 08 Speed 10 years ago. IE old compared to the looks of the MT09/10.

To note - the MT10 doesn't sound or feel like a normal IL4. As I already have the GSXS1000F and Fireblade in the garage, I didn't want an S1000R or other IL4 either, but the MT10 feels/sounds like a V4.

Second that, it’s nothing like a inline engine to ride

MT09 Sp Vs MT10 SP. Apart from the Extra Cylinder and power they are pretty much the same?

Nope. MT09 SP is a budget bike, sprinkled with premium farkles.

MT10 is a premium sports bike (R1), watered down and cheapened to make a super naked. The SP gets back some premium bits, but for me is a bit too much money compared to the standard MT10 to be worth it. The TFT clocks are nice though.

In my view, in spite of looks, the MT10 is a very different bike to MT09 and MT07.

Ride them both though as we are just voices on the internet!!

One of my older lot (53) is on his second Pikes Peak version. Swears by it. I think if you dont mind the extra weight they are a good all rounder. Its not for me though I prefer my super nakeds as already said by a few others as they tick all the boxes
