If its chugging your in too high a gear .

I has a 690 SMCR. Would cut out at low load/low speed like when using the clutch to filter through traffic slowly. Not idea getting to a set of lights as they change and the bike dies.

I'd say thats your riding style. Singles have been about since Jesus. A twin a lumpy old thing down low.

This seems to be a well executed bargain.

156kg dry 70bhp at the wheel, a great price. Trying to think why I shouldn’t get one??
They look interesting but the ride is disappointing. Much as I wanted to like it, it was slow, quite vibey and the riding position is poor if you are over 6ft.

Obvioulsy for a new bike it seems good value, but there is a reason for that! BUt if you ride one and like it, go for it, they doo look quite cool. Adequate, but there's better option IMO. How about a near new minter Ducati mypermotard, or monster?

that goes against just about every single review of them everywhere.

What an ugly looking monstrosity, same as most bikes these days.

(imo) there hasn't been a really good looking bike since the 1970's and 80's.

Yes, they are fast and capable but most look like st.

KTM (UK, not dealer) said it was a characteristic of a highly tuned big capacity single. It could be ridden around but the point is it's not acceptable that you pull the clutch in at low load/rpm and the engine stop dead.

And there’s me thinking that bikes only started to look good in the late 80’s when influenced by endurance race styling of ZX7’s and RC30’s - everything before it looks like utter Fred Dibnah dross and hipster modern stuff looks like a slightly more fashionable version of the same.

Meanwhile low speed chain snatch on singles and twins continues to confuse the PlayStation generation.

I bought a 701 Vitpilen a couple of months ago.

I remember seeing the concept bikes a few years ago at a motorshow and falling in love with the retro modern styling. But I was convinced that, as with almost all concept cars and bikes, it wouldn't translate at all to the road going versions. Surprisingly it did, and when they recently dropped the price from £9K to £7K I thought, why not? It's the perfect stablemate to my Triumph Bonneville, because it's completely different.

So, my review:

It's not comfortable to ride at all, due to the low bars my wrists ache like hell after 30 minutes and by the hour mark, (thanks to the pretty unforgiving seat) my arse is numb. It is a pig to ride at low speeds as it's a bit lumpy, almost like being in a real-life game of buckaroo. I also stall it on every outing, which I haven't done on a bike in years. At speed the wing mirrors are useless, they judder around so much that on the motorway they may as well not be there - you can't make out if anything is approaching.

But...I absolutely love it. It has bags of character and is great fun to ride (on short journeys). My other bike I can take out for longer rides, but if I'm just nipping into town and back then this is the one I always choose. It is great fun and all of the little foibles make every journey more of an experience. You can chuck it around as it handles very well, it's more than quick enough and with the single cylinder engine, when you get the revs up it's very smooth.

I love the look of it and it's quite the head-turner. You never see them out on the road so that makes it quite special. It also sounds pretty good.

I doubt I'd recommend it as the only bike to own, unless you have a car and are just after something fun to take out for the odd blast. But if you already have something more sedate in your garage and are looking for a second bike that's very different to what everyone else has, this is well worth a test ride.

I agree that is usually the reason. However it seems to be far more sensitive to it that other bikes. Look at any review video when they are leaving junctions etc, the bike seems to struggle between idle and 2k'ish. It would suggest that it needs more revs and more clutch dragging to get it away from a standstill, which is just a pain in the arse and not a nice way to ride. I really want one, but as my commute includes a lot of crawling along the lack of finesse is a real deal breaker.

They have very little flywheel effect so need a few revs , the acro exhaust system and subsequent remap make it worse
