Bang on correct.

Some random puts up a picture defending you and the rest of the bike haters lol Aye, whatever.

Mate, if I was standing next to you when it happened I wouldn't believe you.

I hear this crap all the time on bike forums and quite frankly it's garbage. Everyone has a story, or a video supporting there hatred of bikes, but it's all bks to me.

I know plenty with that style of bikes, and most of them can ride the tyres off the things.

You really are a precious one aren’t you. Can’t you cope with people doing a bit of pisstaking about your choice of bike, or a bit of lighthearted banter about your riding ability? I think you need a hug.

Some random roflrofl I've been on here for over 16 years and BN has been for over 12, we have been riding together for at least 10 years, Lindun is a newb but comes with us on ride outs in the vain hope he might learn something hehe

And bike haters, what a laugh, we all like all types of bikes, its just the tts that ride them is the problem.

Here's the big version of the pic, it shows my Z1000SX (which if you can be arsed is photo'd and mentioned regularly on here and BN on his MT10SP, which is also pictured on here a lot, usually airborne or on one wheel.

Your comments make you sound like a blinkered fool to be honest, and you seem like the type who's a member of the flat earth society, unable to believe the truth when it is right in front of your nose, what a plonker rofl

I do hope none of you ever end up on the wrong side of luck, otherwise a link to this thread will be pretty funny.

So do I, I've had more than my fair share. Humility and respect for anyone that rides any type of bike from me.

Even Ducati's.

In response to the OP, I don’t know whether they’re boring or not (adventure type bikes, that is). My last bike was a Triumph Explorer and it was quick enough for me - an indicated 130mph. Prior to that I had a Tiger 1050, which wasn’t really an adventure bike at all (although it did end up on a fair bit of gravel in Scandinavia).

Prior to the Tiger 1050, I had a 750 VFR, which I found uncomfortable on the wrist after any length of time. That may well be down to my riding style and not going quick enough to generate wind to ”lift” my body and relieve the pressure on my wrists, or my total lack of any sort of “core”... either way, I’d rather I found a bike that suited me, rather than me having to change my riding style/posture to suit the bike.

Both the Tiger and the Explorer coped two up with full luggage on occasion and both got me all over Scandinavia. The Explorer was an “improvement” over the Tiger, being 7 years newer and having a load of stuff like cruise control, heated seats and grips, better weather protection, etc. I ride (or rather, rode) all year round, from commuting to work every day to just going out for a day ride or touring around Scandinavia. I like the upright position as I personally find it more comfortable than anything else I’ve tried, I could see “over” stuff when commuting and it was easy enough to filter (without the panniers on, because although in reality, they only added maybe an inch or so of width, but lower down, which was the issue as the bars were usually high enough to go “over” wing mirrors when trickling through at traffic lights).

I’m not a quick rider by any means so ridiculous top speed isn’t an issue for me. When I test rode the Explorer, I also rode the Tiger 800, back to back and coming from the Tiger 1050, it felt a lot smaller and a lot slower in comparison. The Explorer was closer in terms of speed/size, to me at any rate.

As and when I get back to biking, I’m more than likely going to go for another “adventure” bike. I’m going to try the newer Explorer, KTM 790, BMW 800 and 1200 GS, Tenere 700 and Royal Enfield Himalayan. I already think the RE will feel a bit underpowered compared to some of the others, but it’s not really comparing like for like I don’t think.

I do have (or rather, had) a flip front (Schuberth) and full textiles. The helmet was obviously written off, but fortunately, I wasn’t wearing my Klim stuff, so that’s survived for another day. I’m as happy pooling around in Kevlar jeans and a lighter jacket, weather permitting. I would look (even more) ridiculous in leathers, even just plain black ones.

Adventure bikes aren’t for everyone, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a “bad” kind of bike. I do have to say though, that there does seem to be a much higher proportion of GS riders decked head to toe in BMW kit than on other makes. It’s a completely unscientific sample, but I’ve tended to notice more GS riders being “brand loyal” with their kit than other makes (says me with a drawerful of Triumph t shirts, a couple of Triumph riding jackets, Triumph jeans, Triumph gloves... in my defence, they’ve all been bought for stupidly cheap prices from the online Triumph outlet).

A sports bike would be wasted on me. I couldn’t afford to risk taking it on track and binning it and I don’t think I’m a good/quick enough rider to get the most out of one while road riding. For me personally, an “adventure” bike is a better fit, both practically and for my skill level.

Brads67 earlier I’m not a homophobe, but I like to use being gay as an insult and find it strange that men can hug.

Interesting thread. I've never ridden an adventure bike but I have wondered what they're like. Most of my yearly km are done touring nowadays since I stopped commuting. I ride around on my Z1000 and see lots of these BMWs (and probably others) and I see their big screens, ample legroom and fancy luggage and I wonder if perhaps one of these would be better.

Just this year I was riding through the Atlas moutains in Morocco (R307 if anyone knows it) and the roads were terrible, the Kawasaki wasn't enjoying it at all; again I was thinking if I'd be better off on an adventure bike. Less extreme but the same applies to any badly surfaced roads (Italy!), adventure bikes look more comfortable.

What puts me off is that they're expensive and they look complicated. In my head, rightly or wrongly, the BMWs and KTMs are not particularly reliable, you have to take them to the main dealers, which are expensive and when stuff goes wrong it costs a fortune. I know there are smaller/cheaper versions like the Tenere 700 but I look at them and wonder if 80 HP (or whatever they are) is enough for a several thousand km trip with luggage, and sometimes two-up.

Either way, I'm definitely going to try them all when I get round to changing the Kawasaski.

Nice pictures. Do you do anything to make it work on the track? I haven't taken my 1190 on track yet and don't have as much confidence in the front end as I do on the blade, probably just in my head though.

No, although it's better than I could ever have imagined, if you going to take track seriously you should think about something else. I found it cornered better than I ever expected, but heavy breaking taxes the 21" wheel. I was looking to fit the non R wheels or superduke wheels, but I got a RC8 for not much more than that would have cost.

Ah, ok. I thought yours had the 19 inch wheels because of the tyre you had fitted. Mine isn't the r and has a 19 front. It's rock solid under breaking but feels slightly light on the front when cornering sometimes. Amazing bike though. Would love to try an rc8 but line my fireblade too much to swap.
