I think that's a real travisty but, it's in line with other pensions fiddles. For some reason, stealing peoples livelihoods in the stage of life when they are least able to make up the shortfall doesn't seem to be viewed as a major crime!

Someone I know was caught up in a fraud case where a similar amount was involved in the shape of VAT. The main perps did a runner to Dubai leaving him as an 'innocent' (if naïve) fall guy.

He got 2 sentences of 11 years to be served concurrently, was released at 50% so did 5 1/2yrs but of course it was Government money not private individuals that was taken.

If he gets 6 years it doesn’t really send out the message,”crime doesn’t pay”.
Suspended sentence. Crime deffo does pay. He has been declared bankrupt but I'd like to know a bit more about his personal financial circumstances. Where is he living, is he on state benefits, etc., etc..

A nice piece of Hickory down a dark alley would sort that out.
