Jorge Lorenzo..
Discussion
Well not an entire surprise but what a difference 18 months makes....at Ducati, struggling, released, then a bit of tank padding, and suddenly he is clearly the ONLY rider / bike combo to challenge Marquez....
Now retired, Marquez's sighs of relief can be heard from here. He can keep in in his box on a Honda, but I reckon the rumours a few months back about Jorge on a Ducati had worried brows a plenty in Camp 93...

Indeed.
On his day and on a bike he trusted probably the fastest ever with metronomic pace regularity. Amazing to see each lap within fractions of the next.
Hope he finds happiness and fulfillment in whatever comes next.
Agree with this. Brilliant on his day on a bike he trusted. Came across as boring but could only admire they way he came back from most of his injuries. Shame it ended for him being at the back of the grid. Hope he fully recovers from his back injuryOn his day and on a bike he trusted probably the fastest ever with metronomic pace regularity. Nakagami to replace him?

feel a bit bad for him as his troubles seemed to start with being run off the track by marquez.
Is he the only rider so far to interrupt the marquez train of consecutive titles?

Was never a big fan but preffered him to pedrosa, also beat rossi on the same bike so respect (ped was bridesmaid to how many)
seems a bit of an ignoble end to the career.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Probably not the easiest individual to work with, and everything needs to align (including his head) for him to perform at the highest level, but when they do, I'm convinced no one is quicker on a Moto GP bike. I'm not convinced. As I said a very good and talented rider but not "quicker than anyone on a Moto GP bike ever".Not too sure why another year on a Ducati was never looked at as he just clicked with it before hopping over to HRC. Obviously I have oversimplified this but he did well , got a handful of championships and now must move on and let the youngsters come through. As much as I am a Rossi fan , I can see him going the same way.

Ahem ...About that "ever" you sneakily tacked on the end of my post... If you're going to quote my posts, please do so accurately and verbatim
But I digress ... I maintain that during the Rossi's peak MGP years, along with Pedrosa, Marquez, Stoner etc, Lorenzo on the right day, with the right bike, tyres, weather, head in the right place blah blah blah, was quicker than any of them.
Sure, if it came to swapping paint/ banging fairings on the last corner with The Doctor or Marquez, he'd would pretty much always come off second best, but in pole to flag race "unhindered" and out in front, Lorenzo's pace was untouchable.
Granted, those occasions were rare, but when the stars did align ... :

Cal has been hinting at retirement, 1 golden handshake year on the Repsol bike alongside Marquez (Cal is HRC contracted) they may be Red Bull sponsored and Cal is personally sponsored by Monster but it will be his last season and he'll be rewarded enough either way. Zarco on the LCR bike alongside Nakagami, then in 2021 Mini-Marquez jumps onto the Repsol bike alongside his brother.

I am sure Zarco will get the seat, but sadly, I don't rate him as really any better than any other mid pack runner. That'll suit Marquez, I am sure, but does Zarco really deserve a factory Honda seat...? I am not convinced he does.
Who else would you give it to ?Zarco reminds me on guys like Kocinski, quick on a good day, but cant handle pressure and as Schwantz succinctly put it, "falls apart like a cheap watch" when push comes to shove.
Binning it when in the lead, leading then ending up struggling on the top 10 on the Yam, sacking off KTM mid season..?
Thinking about it, there's a lot who deserve it more, Nakagami being one! How bout Bradl?
Marquez Jr must be in with a shout?
