I'd quite like to go to a European Moto GP round on my bike, the trouble always is finding people to go with as some of my mates always say they're up for going to one then life gets in the way!.
Just go on your own! I went to the Bol Dor in the south of France for my first time in Europe on a bike. Brilliant, don't have to wait for people, eat what and when you want. Just do it!
+1

I had the same thing with mates letting me down so now I go on my own. Much better being able to do what you want, now I dont tell them when I'm going.

Convince my Mrs and daughter to let me learn to ride and get a bike!
I can relate to this. Trying to start off with a Grom or TNT125, not as intimidating for her, just to prove I won’t die.
I waited for my wife to be out of country
A1...Whats the saying, easier to ask for forgiveness than permission?...
Just like to add to this, that I’ve came home from work today to a gift from the wife. Deposit paid for my DAS with a local riding school. Just need to ring and book the dates, get my theory and she’ll pay the remaining balance. Absolute keeper my wife, proper buzzing!

Good result! My wife eventually started to ride pillion for road trips, so I hope you get the same benefit.

Yeah great result. Considering she was borderline panic attack last few times I mentioned getting a bike. She’s had a real fear about them for a long time, so this is pretty huge for me. Even rang the riding school for reassurance, and to “make sure I get all the extra safety stuff” lol, bless her.

Get a bike. Ride it. Ideally another road trip to Scandinavia.

The potential for further surgery might put paid to that. Black K-1 very kindly invited me on the Old Gits trip to Spain, so it’s lucky I decided against it (for this year). I’d have hated to let him down and I wouldn’t have liked to miss the trip, either.

Good luck! I was nervous as hell on my mod 1, more than I have been for years, but managed to style it out with no faults (by luck rather than skill I think)

I've fancied doing that...how long do you think it would take?

Depends how much of a slog you want to make it I suppose - straight up the autobahn/motorway, or take the scenic route?

Scenic route only. I don’t do motorways. Looking at starting/finishing from around the Alps. Then it is 2 weeks I think. Nothing concrete planned yet, but something will come together soon...

I want to keep working towards getting my head together again and actually do more than 500 miles this year.

Oh, and win the lottery.

Shame you can't make the 2020 trip but I'll keep a slot open for you for 2021. biggrin

On the way back from the 2018 OG trip waiting at Calais I got talking to a guy on what I recall was a Triumph Tiger with an absolutely mahoosive aluminium cube of a fuel tank where the rear seat should be (complete with plumbing/valves) as well as panniers and box all decked out in Iron Butt club stickers and awards. The ENTRY LEVEL for these guys is 1000 miles in 24 hours! I'm sure the guy said he was in his 70s, and he told tales of loads of stupidly long non-stop journeys - but the one I recall was he'd done the UK to Istanbul and back over a long weekend - Friday through Monday!
