Starting a new job in a few days time in Shepherds Bush area - when I previously worked near there I rode in from the sticks via the A3 quite a lot and used H'smith Bridge. I know it's now closed to motor vehicles, but have people seen others pushing scooters/m'bikes across it? Prob a 5 min faff but still quicker than going via Putney Bridge I would have thought, esp with the reduction in traffic in Roehampton/Castelnau...

Hammersmith and Fulham Council have said it's OK to push a motorbike across the bridge:

Dated July; I've recently heard anecdotal evidence they've now stopped it.

Sorry I can't be more precise than that. It's not part of my normal route.

You're right - the latest letter confirms that motorcycles aren't allowed on the bridge at present.

I don't know if it's the same dahn sahth, but a trafpol bloke I was chatting to a while back told me that they treat someone pushing a bike on the highway exactly the same as if they were riding it i.e. they have to obey all signs and directions, traffic laws etc.

Someone they see pushing a bike is going to get an instant stop and check, just in case it isn't actually theirs and, depending on whether they pass or fail the attitude test, is going to be checked for tax, insurance etc.

He even told me about one guy they stopped who was pushing his bike home along the pavement because he was too pissed to ride it and got done for the works; bald tyre, wonky lights, loud can, no helmet etc plus the licence loser of drunk in charge.

As he said though, who is to say that the guy won't get fed up pushing when he's half-way home and just fire it up anyway.

That all makes sense. I know someone who got done for drink driving because he went to go sleep in his car after a house party. Was woken up by a police officer at 6am and breathalysed. Mistake he made was not leaving his keys in the house from what I heard.

Hammersmith bridge is different though, if they've said that you can push a motorbike across, that's got to be okay. If they've then changed their mind, then clearly you can't anymore.
