Thread resurrection!
Today I attempted my MOD 1 and....failed. I put a foot down during the U-turn.
What's really annoying is that I've been practicing them like crazy and have performed in the region of 30 successful U-turns this week....only for the one and first time I put my foot down being during the test.
Anyway, ready this thread has made me feel better about my failure today.
On the plus side, really enjoyed the ride back from the test centre. Bikes are fun!

The human mind is a very odd thing…’don’t put foot down’ turns in to a subconscious ‘put foot down’….you’ll pass next time.Today I attempted my MOD 1 and....failed. I put a foot down during the U-turn.

You’ll get there and it’ll be worth it. Seems like ages since started this thread but I’ve enjoyed my biking. Predominantly I commute but find time to get out and go for a blast and enjoy the bike. First run out since November today to get the Tiger MOT’d and I reminded myself how much I enjoy riding it. Today I attempted my MOD 1 and....failed. I put a foot down during the U-turn.

Yes that's what I've been telling myself - I'll get there. This thread has helped make me feel like less of a failure! ghibbett said:

It took me 3 attempts to pass my MOD 1 at the end of last year. Someone on here described the MOD 1 as "easy to pass but easy to fail" and that pretty much summed it up for me. Each section of the test is easy enough, but sometimes nerves just get the better of you, and all it takes is one little mistake.Today I attempted my MOD 1 and....failed. My nemesis was the hazard avoidance section right at the end. Just like your U-turns, it was something I'd practiced loads and was consistently doing to a good standard. And yet on two separate MOD 1 tests I managed to clip a cone.
Next time you will go into it knowing what to expect, and you know you're capable of passing the test. Best of luck and please keep us updated!

I'm fairly old. So remember when it was called part 1. I'd been riding for ages, commuting daily, done all my training, and then failed my part 1 on a basic figure 8.
I was devastated.
Went back two weeks later, easily passed and did my part 2 (basically ride round the block a few times) 2 weeks later.
Rode almost every day for the next 30 years until I retired and swapped the bike for a cobra. Still miss it.
Update: had my second attempt at Mod 1 today....and failed.....again
It was the dreaded U-turn again. Balance, speed etc all fine, but my front wheel went just outside the white line. I wasn't sure if I had failed during the test, as kept my vision up and didn't fall for the target fixation of looking at the line.
All the rest of it fine; No minors and 50km/h on the dot for both emergency stop and obstacle avoidance.
I'm really, really pi55ed off!

This seems very unfair to me - why not just ask you to do it again? - it's not like it would have gotten you killed. It was the dreaded U-turn again. Can you borrow a bike to practice doing that on or get a cheap 125 and take it to a car park.
After reading your posts I got my 125 Cagiva out on the drive which is nigh on impossible to do as it is a sports bike setup and seems to want to fall over unless going fast. My super moto I can just ride round in circles.

Try not to be disheartened! I'm a hypocrite for saying that because I really let it get to me when I failed the MOD 1, especially the second time round. But it will all be worth it in the end.It was the dreaded U-turn again. Balance, speed etc all fine, but my front wheel went just outside the white line. As for the U-turn, I found holding a steady ~2000rpm while balancing the clutch and rear brake meant I could maintain the right momentum without any jerky throttle adjustments. All the while looking at where I wanted the bike to go rather than fixating on the white line. You probably know all this already and have perfected it a hundred times. Nerves can make us do daft things!
Keep at it. You will pass!
Hello all.
Firstly thank you to everyone who has replied and all the positive encouragement. I've read and re-read it all multiple times.
So today was my third attempt and....I passed!! Thank fk for that!
Nailed the U-turn this time - quite right too, I've probably done around 60-70 in practice, which is likely more than many people do in their biking lives!
Did pick up a minor for the emergency stop. It was raining and the back wheel slightly skidded. A clean sweep would have been nice, but I'm happy to have achieved a pass.
Onto Mod 2 next :-)
