My c125 (modern c90) costs £200 to insure £20 to tax £100 to service and does 150mpg, ( if that helps)
I struggle with being a fat bd and my old Honda 125 barely managed 120mpg and only got to 50mph if it was downhill with a tailwind.

Running in a new 1000cc bike riding less than 7k mostly

3 degrees, man, why are you on an RR?!
Besides, I thought you already had RR since 2 years or so? Did you buy a second one?

There's very little in it between a litre bike and a 600 in my experience.

Insurance for me is naff all as long as they're 10 yrs old or more. The 954 blade i bought the other month cost about £30 to add fully comp, and £25 of that was admin fees.

Servicing is the same price. Intervals are the same. Parts are the same price. I mostly do the work myself.

MPG is about the same. My 600RR and TT600 were about on par with my blackbird at around 45mpg.

The best MPG bike i've had was an SV650 as that did 55mpg+ all the time, but it's not an IL4 engine so maybe not a fair comparison..

In fact, for MPG vs performance the best bike i've had was a K1300S as that did 50mpg+ with ease and was a monster of an engine.

Closely followed by my 2014 fireblade that could get up to silly MPG levels if ridden within the speed limits, frequently seeing into the 60s MPG

In my experience i just pick the bike i fancy as running costs vary very little between them

EDIT: having said that i've just done some insurance quotes on a 2018 Blade SP that i fancy and it's coming out at the thick end of £500, which is more than i paid this year for my 4 other bikes (blackbird, R1, etc) and 3 cars (incl a boxster).

Might put that idea aside now!!!

If money is the top priority then a C90 is better bet!

The overall cost difference between running a 600(ish) bike and a 1000 bike is not going to be huge.
My 1100 did 21mpg. My 790 does 65mpg. My 1100 cost £800 to service. My 790 costs £250 to service. My 1100 cost £1200 to insure. My 790 cost £400 to insure.

Night and day difference.
And how much would a C90 cost?
Less, but that's not the retarded bit of your statement. The difference between a ~600 and a ~1000 is massive for the most part assuming they're the nice ones. Money might not be your top priority but when ~600s will do indecent speeds fairly effortlessly and cost less than half to run (less than a third in most cases!) then it becomes a factor.

You're effectively advocating buying a C90 or a Desmosedici?
In your specific case the costs between a "mid sized" bike and a litre bike were significant but I note you don't identify the specific bikes, your riding experience/claims hisory or your location. For most riders, with a few years claim free riding, not living in the London area the difference between running say a GSXR600 and a GSXR1000 would be negligible. I accept that comparing a new rider in Peckham, with on street parking and either a NTV600 or a brand new 1299 Panigale is going to deliver a huge difference but that's not really apples with apples.

As a new rider, I was planning to by a husky 401, essentially a ktm 390 in a daft punk outfit. I wanted, or thought I wanted, something light and blattable which I could also use on desert trails.

I rode a duke 390 and a monster 797 over Xmas and the 390 was immediately out, as was any thought about trails. The 390 wouldn’t cope on my commute (10miles of 8lane highway with a few miles of fun bits either end) and was nowhere near as grin inducing as the monster.

I’ve ridden an m796 and m821 since and believe I’ll end up with either the m796 or m1100 evo. Yet to ride the latter but I’m expecting something between the 821 and 796. More torque and power than the latter but with less intense power delivery of the former. Better specced and similar weight to the 796 to boot.

I went with the 1100 evo. Much preferred the power delivery and the effortless torque. Far better than the 796 in every way yet the same weight, was a no brainer

Sounds like a great choice, being an Evo it has ABS as well I assume?

I had a mt07 for a while which I really didn’t like, was very easy to ride had the low end power but the engine braking was annoying.

I’d compare that to a Diesel engine.

I’m not saying 600cc are not good. If I was doing a track day or a proper fast ride I’d say a 600cc would be more satisfying to ride, but for a daily it was too annoying because of traffic.
I had an mt-07 as my first and only bike aside from a cb125f I used to learn on. I could see why they were popular. Power to weight was good but completely agree about the engine. Seemed very diesel or tractor like to me and for sheer fun I always regretted not buying a Street triple after testing one. That said the Yamaha was probably better for the commute but it didn't really offer the fun factor so I sold it and haven't replaced it.

Yep very easy to ride but just annoying. I’ve not tried a street triple yet heard lots of good things but tbh it screams “get a mx5” hype to me, “but but but you don’t get it”

For sheer omfg you can’t beat a sports bike, even a legal ish limits - it ticks the boxes, yes it does feel a like holding it back but so does every car.

I’m currently very happy with my k6 Gsxr 1000. To me it’s like having a Ferrari but you can filter so you don’t get stuck in traffic with the minions!

The engine configuration is normal so is comparable to what I expect but 14k is always an experience.

A Mk1 MX5 doesn't

wink

That's why I've owned one for 25+ yrs

It's also why I'm not buying a Sportsbike

If you’ve spent the last 25+years mincing about in that you have missed out on the golden years of motoring IMO, it’s only downhill from here chaps.

if that floats your boat crack on.

I’m not fussed if you buy a sportsbike or not.

I know I like my sportsbike, what’s not to like?

You're only demonstrating that narrow minded dheads prefer sportsbikes

If you had the intelligence to look in the garage section you'll see I've owned most of them

crycry Why would I bother checking your garage?

Anybody can write a list....before you start photobombing the thread with pics, Remember I don’t care.

And sportsbikes are the best. You don’t know that because you’ve never ridden 1.

If you had, you’d have to contain a little smile remembering the first time it scared you.

Superbikes may be your cup of tea but there are many who don't think they're the best, me included.

The first time I rode a K6 it did scare me, handled like a boat, would never hold a line, just very old school. Now, I wouldn't say it, but it could be pointed out to you that many naked bikes would maul 'yesterdays superbike', which is what the K6 is now.

Perhaps you should ride a modern bike and stop judging people?

Sounds like either it was a st example or you couldn’t ride it?

Every bike should do the examples you have made easily if it couldn’t manage it I wouldn’t have bought it.

Most of these bikes are too fast for the road so a bike mauling another comes down to the rider, which I’m not overly interested in on the road.

My first example of the beast scaring me, was it picking its front wheel up from a too eager launch.

Why should I care what a modern bike will do? I really like my bike, it’s definitely not the best bike and I’ve not said it is.

Arnt naked bikes are kinda like a sportsbike without the fairings? don’t some of the good ones use the same engines?

It’s not really just about the “sportsbike” I like it’s the in-line 4 config, feels normal. Same as I don’t like Subaru engine

You lot getting all lined up is really silly.

It’s not like I go on every what bike thread an post pics and point out the guy that went out a Sportsbike nob head but came back a refined Bmw ks1300 owner.

Never had or ridden a sports bike but I’d love one.
Unfortunately when I was younger I never had the disposable income to have one,now I’m older and can afford one my body say’s no.
Been hanging my nose over the new Ducati V2 and may just try to suck up the pain to own a bike I love the looks of.

Just to add that I would be in the novice group on a track and I could never utilise the power available,I just really want a Ducati and love the design of the V2.

I lied.
Rode a Honda 600RR at Ron Haslams if that counts.

Handled like a boat?
Very old school? (2006)

Blatant lie even in 2020.
