Very old school? (2006)

Blatant lie even in 2020.
Oh pipe down, what the fk do you know about it anyway? Any old K6, and they all are now, unless having had the suspension replaced will feel st compared to anything modern. There was nothing wrong with it particularly, it’s just an old bike, but a brief test ride on a 17 S1000RR and Street showed it up completely. It’s not a bad bike, but anyone who says they’re at the sharp end in this day and age is dreaming.

Sounds like either it was a st example or you couldn’t ride it?

Every bike should do the examples you have made easily if it couldn’t manage it I wouldn’t have bought it.

Most of these bikes are too fast for the road so a bike mauling another comes down to the rider, which I’m not overly interested in on the road.

My first example of the beast scaring me, was it picking its front wheel up from a too eager launch.

Why should I care what a modern bike will do? I really like my bike, it’s definitely not the best bike and I’ve not said it is.

Arnt naked bikes are kinda like a sportsbike without the fairings? don’t some of the good ones use the same engines?

It’s not really just about the “sportsbike” I like it’s the in-line 4 config, feels normal. Same as I don’t like Subaru engine

You lot getting all lined up is really silly.

It’s not like I go on every what bike thread an post pics and point out the guy that went out a Sportsbike nob head but came back a refined Bmw ks1300 owner.
The ‘beast’, when you pull those stonking wheelies do you have Meatloaf playing in your head rofl

But you said Naked bikes weren’t much cop, have you ever ridden one/anything else?

Hope you manage to tame it biggrin

As for ‘st example’ it was a bog stock K6, front forks, like all standard ones, had fk all control, adjusters all turned up although in reality just an old design that never worked very well. I could have changed the rear shock, fitted a cartridge kit then an RCS plus calipers etc but why? Plenty of better bikes for less money, K8 for example. I get the rose tints for the K5/6, it’s lovely, I bought one, but it’s just not that amazing in this day and age. £9-10K will get you on a ‘15 S1000RR. Why would anyone stump up 5K for a 14 year old bike then spend 3k trying to make it better?

Anyway OT. Naked bikes are where it’s at for me now. Fast comfy and keep speeds in check. Try one, then form a real opinion for yourself.

Sounds like a great choice, being an Evo it has ABS as well I assume?
Yes, it has ABS but not TC. Also has the dual shotgun carbon termis and remap to suit biggrin

Seller was also just about the perfect guy to buy from. Ex Ducati dealer, runs a race school, has a dozen or so 1199 Race bikes etc. It's been fettled accordingly, fully serviced 300km ago and is an absolute peach. I'll be taking track lessons with him, not with the intention to track it per se but to gain high[er] speed handling confidence in a closed environment.

3rd party quote was just over £100 for the year, fully comp cover i went for [with provision for any rider] is about £220. no road tax, 47p a litre of super, and it'll be serviced when due by its previous owner smile

My FZ1 is geared for 75 mph in first as stock.

I'll never use all of it, never.

But it just means the engine is never under a great amount of stress, so it's going to be quite reliable.

Sports bikes are for losers who like presenting their rings for their mates with small willies to take turns on, before sinking a pint of lemonade and watered down cat piss then jumping on their midlife crisis and demonstrating how fast the bike will go in first gear and how many countries they can irritate at once with the noise.

Oh, and for those that take them to trackdays and ride like heros. Generally though it's 99% the former.

Very nice indeed! I keep thinking I should fit the low pipes and a side can on my 796, the underseats are good but it'd be easier to get better noise with the side pipe.

I'll have you know I ride on track!

I also drink shandy looking beer (I'm from the South)

And... My penis is very small but it's better than my mates so my wife tells me

So there!

fk sportsbikes - they're for middle aged show-offs who ride them maybe 10 times in a year, wobbling around the corners & making a fearful racket..... getmecoat
Get a naked, anything up to 1000cc, & enjoy a bit of everything without the fked wrists/back/etc

I met a guy who is planning a 4 month tour of the states on his 1199 Panigale, I questioned his choice of bike, he said it's my bike and I like riding it.

crycry I knew you’d bite  and rant.

Nope not ridden to many bikes - I’ve not made too many mistakes wink but I knows what I like.

I’ve not got rose tinted glasses about the k6 Gsxr or sportsbikes in general. If you like them you do if you don’t you don’t.

I like mine because was cheap and does basically what they all do, and it’s my favourite colour.

Call me weird but - I don’t like any bike that has twin exhausts one on each side or underseat exhaust is a immediate no no. Then as I’ve said the inline 4 seems to work for me, I’m not up for paying the insurance on a newer bike for no reason.

I had a mt07 and absolutely hated it at motorway speed, I don’t like the constant wind. Same as in a car I generally have the windows semi closed on the motorway.

It’s funny to read all the negativity towards sportsbikes when it really comes down to you don’t like them or they don’t suit what you want to do.

I bought my (now) 13 year old S2r for about £3k a couple of years ago and last year I spent £7-800 changing the suspension. It's also had a set of sticky tyres. Next on the list is bigger front disks and new calipers.

So that's probably in the region of £15-1800 on top of the purchase price so a similar sort of percentage.

And I am fully aware that I won't get any of it back and that I could have bought a bigger / faster bike but there are no other bikes that I want to own and this just makes it better.

Mind you, I used to play golf and this is cheap compared to what you could pay to do that (but not get any better !)

it sounds amazing with the side pipes. my garage is accessed by a long underground tunnel. mornings are awesome.

i might swap it for a shorter single silencer though, undecided.

done 3 trips to work so far [for those who know dubai, rush hour on SZR!] and haven't had any issues. the inattention and lack of caution towards bikers here is crazy. bought a motodemic headlight conversion kit and vision x vortex headlight to improve visibility. thinking of adding the strobe type brake light and a louder horn.

Yonex must hate me then as I'm currently restoring a 90s sportsbike which will undoubtedly handle like a boat wink

I'm doing it as a hobby as I enjoy tinkering.

I bought my first bike (CBR600F4i) for 2k and spend some money on it (= new suspension etc).
I wanted that particular model and that particular bike and I am still as fond of it as 6 years ago.
The bike has lots of mileage, quite a few scratches and other blemishes and is worth nothing, so I can use it without ever thinking about resell value.

Crickey....

My K4 was still a fab bike when I got rid 18 months ago. The S1000RR that replaced it was sharper, lighter, more fun. But the GSXR had some great attributes as a road bike and it was never disappointing to ride.

The CB1000R that replaced the BMW (to slow me down a bit) can be a bit irritating. Has a "Choppy" back end that I cant get right and a very smooth but not so exciting motor.

Going to sound slightly odd, but I actually find my ZX-10R pretty comfortable, more so than the SDR. I do however already have a knackered knee and shoulder!
