After returning to bikes after many years, I could have chosen any number of bikes I would be happy with from classic italian/japanese to modern.

Always liked Harley so decided on this one. When I looked at it, I couldn't find any mods the guy made that I wouldn't have done myself.
Had it a little while and very happy.

Still get the hankering for classic italian, but the bigger gut might make it difficult

Gonna' get flamed for this but now have a Goldwing...

Mainly because SWMBO wanted one on the basis that it was the most comfortable pillion ride around. I actually quite enjoy it!

I was going to buy a Ducati 1098 as it was the latest and greatest Ducati at the time, then this 999R came up. I thought it's still pretty quick and, as it has a lot of carbon fibre and other fancy bits-and-pieces, it appealed to my inner wker and it's a bit silly. I find the 999R a lot more comfortable in some ways than the later Ducati superbikes but it's a bit of a terror in other ways.

Because a lot of my riding is done on country lanes in Wales and the West Country.

And because, alongside my "projects", I wanted one bike with a warranty, so that I would always have something to ride.

And because I hadn't treated myself to a shiny new toy since 1979. smile

I was commuting into London on my old VFR800Fi and in all the slow traffic/filtering my back and wrists were killing me. So I needed something comfortable, with a decent tank range that would still be OK for camping/touring etc, decent build quality and a big enough engine to take lots of miles.

I looked at a range of things (2015) - Tracer, Versys 1000, Triumph Tiger etc and after a number of test rides ended up with a Honda Crossrunner. After 20k (I haven't commuted for the last couple of years) it continues to do everything that I want it to do from weekend rideouts, two up work, an Old Gits Euro tour to the Dolomites and the very occasional trip to the office. Just a really solid bike.

All bikes I'd own myself, but had to comment that the CCM is just perfection.

You got some nice bikes there. I thought about the Africa with the cheap deals to be had but tbh I'll never use it so didnt bother

My first bike I wanted when I got back into road bikes was the Diavel. Still think they look like a proper 'muscle bike'

Do you find the single cylinder CCM a bit frustrating?

I bought my MT10 after a break from biking. Had a spatter of 400's and 600's before going to university and had to give biking due to being a skint student. As soon as I got my first pay check I started booking test rides. I didn't really want another I4 so I had already made my mind up about the S1000r before the test really. The SDR and Tuono were great, but the luggage options were insanely expensive, in the end I went with the MT10 as the dealer through in Yamaha panniers for free. Strange enough, the MT was a fraction of the cost to insure vs the SDR, Tuono and S1000R. I know its not quite on the same level as the others, but with 0 no claims and being 22 at the time, the MT was about £500 to insure compared to £1500 for the others. My heart still wants the SDR so I'll probably get into one around Christmas this year!

Free insurance. I'd just passed my test and bought a new YZF600R because it came with a years insurance. That was 1995 and i still have it. Never owned another bike.

Mine chose me really.

I used to own the car below, which incidentally was powered by a FZR 1000 Exup (as close as you can get to a bike on 4 wheels for fun, if that's even possible) but was sold a few years back.

My mate owned the KTM 950 SM and with me in the Rocket and him as the outrider for Hooning and overtakes we had some great trips to the Nurburgring, Spa and Le Mans etc. several times.

2 years ago he dropped off the KTM with me to keep in the garage for him when he became ill with bowel cancer, so I could look after until he was better he said, then he promptly got bored and went out and brought himself a 954 Fireblade and a Firestorm to keep himself amused!

Tragically he never came back to pick it up and left to me in his Will.

I'll never sell it, great bike but even better memories.
