Why did you choose the bike you have?

Harley VRSCF 2012 - after a big crash and 2 year break from driving/riding, learnt to walk again, but needed something comfy, feet forward but with enough poke to be interesting. Figured it looked good and would hold its value ready for when I got bored of it. 8 years/30k miles later still enjoy riding it, go touring on it every year
MV Brutale 1090RR 2015 - wanted a "real" naked i.e. no fairings with plenty of performance that looked great, and a comfy upright riding position. 13k miles later its been faultless (touch wood!)
Have to say I’m doing more rides to rallies with a pillion and the vrods keep winking at meMV Brutale 1090RR 2015 - wanted a "real" naked i.e. no fairings with plenty of performance that looked great, and a comfy upright riding position. 13k miles later its been faultless (touch wood!)
Had a very limited budget and it was between a Hornet, Bandit or an SV. This wasn't my first choice in colour scheme but it wasn't even a mile away from my house so decided to go and see it. Liked it more in the flesh and seemed a genuine owner, was offered it at a good price so just went for it.
Happy with it but fancy something with more low down power and a bit newer.

2015 Lexmoto Venom: It was cheap and comfy to sit on. Stand to lose £350 if it gets nicked so can't complain. Comes apart like lego with the most basic of tools (Used an 8 and 10mm socket, flat and philips screwdriver, that's it). Doesn't start but looks like it's only a coil problem, rear caliper seized and key bent. Cheap fix, cheap bike to rag/learn on/fall off, allow me less restrictive practice until I go for DAS or decide I don't like biking!

Out of interest, how is it? I've heard mixed reports - some say it's too heavy for greenlaning, others that it's built like a tank and hence perfect.
I had a 400S that I modded for laning and it was excellent TBH. OK these lanes were not too technical but with the right tyres/gearing it worked well and had a good amount of low down grunt.andburg said:

MV F3 - I saw the pictures and thought is looked amazing. When I got a new job I wanted to reward myself and have something that I really wanted to ride. I tested the '12 Blade and Daytona 675R, but when it came to parting with my money, they just didn't do anything for me. I wanted the 848, but they had just gone off sale. Test rode the MV, it was stiff, everything shook and I couldn't see out of the mirrors or the dashboard. But 2 minutes in it just came together.
Monster 1200 - New job, and I just upgraded the 821. It does everything very well.
RSV-R Mille - Started working on restoring it with my brother last year, a month before he was killed on his bike. He loved it, I loved him, would never have anything else. The others would go first.

Only time the weight was ever an issue for me (baring in mind I'm only 9 stone so very skinny) was when I got stuck in a deep mud hole and couldn't get traction to get out. Granted, I never did any tough trails on it as I was always riding solo. It's been sat in my shed unused for the last two years, selling it this summer as all green lanes have been shut down near me.
I wanted something to suit my short-arse stature, comfortable with good wind protection and luggage capabilities for our annual European jaunts...
I am not a smart man
Seriously though, I've just always liked them...big, old school sports bike with shiny gold and carbon bits.
Had it for 9yrs this year and wondering whether I should upgrade next year for my 40th
ETA - And the noise!

Great build quality, fast, good handling, reliable, loads of aftermarket goodies, large dealer network with immediate parts supply.
Of course it's a Fireblade.
Ditto. Can't beat Honda build quality. That said, at the price of the 2020 blade, I'd be tempted by the BMW if I were to change. That and having a bad time with a dealer that rhymes with lady garden. Of course it's a Fireblade.

Thanks both, good to hear. I've been thinking about a dirt bike for next winter, and although a fancy TPI KTM would be top of my lottery win list, my walker says something more modest is needed. Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
