He should use his donations and ad-rev to hire his own personal fire engine and ambulance to follow him on every ride.

Edit: Actually he probably spends it all on replacement bikes and hospital treatment. hehe

Is insurance in America just really cheap!? There's no way this guy would be insurable in the UK with the literally dozens of bikes he's written off.

It wasn't his fault there was a rock to hit, it was his fault he was so committed and fast he didn't see it and couldn't avoid it.

Also when did throwing water on a petrol fire become a thing !

I also checked in thinking he was dead, plenty of time yet for the chap.

I think from one of the beard and bikers SRK bible quoting videos that insurance is optional in the US, though I could be mistaken.

Insurance in the US is really focused on the driver / rider - rather than the vehicle - and focused on risk. So subtly different to the UK. Each state has a slightly different policies, but you must have insurance. In a similar way, you can have basic coverage and comprehensive and build out what you want. However, minimums are bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and personal property damage. California has minimums of 15/30/5 - so thats $15k max bodily injury, $30k bodily injury per accident and $5k personal property damage - but, that is for OTHER people unless you carry comprehensive coverage.

Bottom line? You can get very cheap insurance and can cover anything if you dont have comprehensive and have the legal minimum coverage. Unless you have points, a ban or maybe a DUI conviction or two, probably looking at a few hundred in the insurance premium. Is it worth it? Based on what they could pay out, its basically pointless. Crash a sports bike with that coverage and you get nothing. Oh, and since Forestry Service Fire & Rescue came out to help, there is no bill for that (provided by the local county / city). Ambulance delivery to hospital and any costs incurred in hospital - that comes out of your $15k max. Widely reported that an overnight stay in a hospital in California is around $4k - and thats without any doctors, treatment or care. You can see that $15k doesnt go far. For reference, the recommended minimum for everyone is $100k - and then let your health insurance pickup from there.

Oh, and since I have a minute - that crash on the rock, thats a stupid one. Just checked, he's in LA County I believe - rocks on mountain / canyon roads ARE TO BE EXPECTED. There will be regular signs and you are warned about it when there has been an 'event'. Either a quake, rain (not in this case) or strong wind, rocks will be on the roads. Caltrans (the CA roads authority) does a pretty damn good job of keeping the roads clear, but its a difficult task. Thats a stupid crash with a situation that he would have had plenty of warning about. Its not as if he doesnt have access to a number of race tracks in the region...

His videos must be uploaded weeks after they have been recorded, he smashed himself up in one video (broken leg etc) and was back on a bike within 2 weeks, if you look at his channel there's a video going around his garden with his bikes, looks like a right weirdo, but as has been previously commented he is.

I watched another yesterday now on his R1 and his throttle control is shocking, on/off half a dozen times through a corner, every corner.... just an accident waiting to happen.

"Kitty" managed to avoid the rock.... Maybe the speeds involved and hanging off the shirt tails of someone else and not having a full view of the road came into it?

From page 1.

From another forum..

Edward Eugene McMahel - also known on YouTube as "Max Wrist" got himself sentenced to 720 days and then some...quite a light sentence considering the rest of the charges

On March 16, at a general court-martial convened at Vicenza, Italy, Sgt. 1st Class Eugene McMahel was convicted by a military judge, pursuant to his pleas, of two specifications of attempted sodomy for the purpose of receiving a thing of value, one specification of disobeying a commissioned officer, one specification of recklessly operating a vehicle, three specifications of sodomy for the purpose of receiving a thing of value, two specifications of assault consummated by battery, two specifications of assault consummated by battery upon a child, one specification of aggravated assault upon a child, three specifications of adultery, and one specification of obstructing justice. McMahel was sentenced to be reduced to the grade of E-1, to forfeit all pay and allowances, to be confined for 720 days, and to be discharged from the service with a bad conduct discharge.

Nice.

I think there's been half a dozen crashes since this thread was last updated, but this one is particularly bad as he takes out another rider and pillion.

How many crashes does it take, to make him realize he must be doing something wrong ?
