Only, I'm struggling to think of any instance, ever, where a law has been made on the basis of "well, all the cool kids in Austria are doing it". For that reason, and many others actually, this really doesn't bother me.
I can think of a few laws which were created due to the activities of a certain Austrian. Depends which side of the third reich you sit on if you think he was cool. So there might be merit in this after all.
80 odd years ago. Not in UK.

Some of you may remember a similar flap and outbreak of doom-mongering after Rainsford Road near the Ace cafe in North West London was also closed to motorcycle traffic, initially on a six week trial basis in 2013. If not, that's what was done by Brent council after numerous complaints about loud and annoying bikes "late into the night" near the popular biker hangout.

This google street view image from last year would suggest it is still in place, but I've not heard of any other such bans having been brought in so far.

I reckon this one would be far more likely to precipitate similar in UK were councils minded to do anything similar, don't you? The fact that nobody else has done since 2013

To barr my access when the road is neither a toll road or my vehicle is fully legal may actually give rise to a legal challenge. On what legal basis is my right of way being denied to me?

Slippery slope gents...
Slippery slope where?
To a permanent ban, on these and many other roads.

What do you think the outcome of the pilot is likely to be?

Q. "Did the pilot ban work? Was it quieter?"
A. "Jah"

Q. "Should the ban be made permanent?"
A. "Jah"
You got that it's in Austria, did you?
I've corrected my post for you!

Yes, I am fully aware that it's in Austria, and that the weekend banning of bikes on certain roads is in Germany, and that the requirement for day-glo stickers on helmets and only CE approved gloves is in France etc. My point, which you really seem to be struggling to understand, despite me stating it, I thought, quite clearly, is it's all part of a gradual creep of legislation that will likely spread to the whole of Western Europe (and I specifically did not say the EU before some smart arse attempts to point out the obvious), that will ultimately result in the compete removal of motorcycling as a form of transport.

Motorcycling is a billion pound industry indulged in by millions of individuals globally, most of whom can vote.

"Legislation creep" is inevitable in all transport as we become increasingly risk adverse societies, but a ban seems incredibly unlikely.

This thread reads like a Daily Mail comments board!

Have fun. I am sure you are totally right and will win the legal challenge
You make my point perfectly biggrin

If you can't form a reasoned arguement or even engage in a discussion without resorting to acts of childishness, then don't be surprised for being called out on it.

Perhaps concentrate on the necessities of an automated gate before piling into subjects possibly beyond your broader comprehension?

Yes, I'm condacending to you now but hey, you started it tongue out

This is bizarre. How would one know their bike is louder than the limit? Was the a list of allowed/banned bikes?

It might, although see my post about Rainsford Road above. 7 years and counting. Birmingham City Council have exempted PTWs from their impending CAZ thanks in large part to MAG lobbying. Stop panicking and get lobbying seems to be the lesson.

I actually think the legislation is moot.
How many new riders come into motorcycling each year discounting the 40 something box tickers and the Domino's delivery goons?
motorcycling as a form of transport is dying due to the existing licensing requirments and the Snowflake generation not wanting to be seperated from their phones amongst other things
You can Social media in a car, less so on a bike.
You can stay dry and wram in your hipster threads in a car, less so on a bike.
You can enjoy your Avocado toast in a car. Good luck with that on a bike!

lets face it, we're a dying breed, and they don't need anything to hasten the inevitable.

The real question is who is going to stand their checking each bike for type and year to allow or deny access?

But in the country that birthed herr Hitler, perhaps there's a queue of willing jobsworths? scratchchin

Shhhh... I've put my name down wink

Imagine the fun of a tighty official uniform replete with officious cap, clip board and list of all registrations of nicht genehmigung bikes registered in the country and the opportunity to strut around shouting 'Nein nein NEIN, du bist verboten!!! Raus Raus, macht schnell!!!! Nächster!! Nächster!!

Exactly. If I arrived at it I would have no idea.

I like a "nice" sounding pipe, but motorcyclists have a lot to answer for. I've noticed MOT centers are getting a lot stricter as things move forward. Full size number plates and baffles need to be present at all the places around me. But you just need to sit for 10 minutes at Rykas/Loomies to see that if the police wanted to clamp down they would have a field day. I'm actually shocked at how lenient they are.

Agree that its a dying breed. With young people being keen on new leased vehicles, whopping premiums and no ability to spanner, the amount of young people with the spare budget to pass bike tests and run a bike must be getting less and less. Bike meet spots are a very mature crowd.

It’s written in your vehicle docs. The police pull you over...ask you for the docs...when the decibel level is higher than the new requirement you are fined and probably sent home.

The KTM doesn't have it, but I'll check the BMW.
