We live in the peaks and bike noise is the current number one complaint. It drives all the locals here mental.

I was 5 miles from the nearest road last week and all you could hear was bikes racing up and down the A6.

As with most things the idiots will spoil it for everyone else.

Many have done it in the past but are now condemning those that do it now.

When I was younger I thought everyone thought my music was cool blasting out my car and my 4 cylinder st heap with a big end can sounded the nuts. The reality was far removed..
Exactly. There’s a lot of jealousy for a start, OP is obviously winning at life and has some toys, good on him. Done the noisy bd look at me thing, over that sort of thing now, so tomorrow I’ll be sensible.

No respect for others?? Oh give it a rest. I honestly don't know how some people manage to get through daily life being constantly annoyed and offended by everything all the time rolleyes . So to clarify then, a loud exhaust on a motorcycle, means the owner has "no respect for others"? What, at all? So Dave from down the road sticks a Racefit Mega on his Fireblade, and then once that's complete goes on a spree of murders? Robbing old ladies? Smashing next door's wing mirrors off their car 'cause Dave has no respect for others? What a load of melodramatic st laugh

I don't know, maybe to some of us there are more pressing priorities or issues to occupy us than a bit of exhaust noise here and there.

So what exactly do those who deliberately fit a loud exhaust hope to achieve? If all bikes get banned does that benefit them in some way? Or is it just about annoying people for the sake of it?

If they were fitting loud exhausts despite the negative effects that would be bad enough. But it isn't just selfish, it's a fetish for pissing others off, the same mentality as middle lane hogs. But far more serious.

82-86db is the legal limit for motorbikes isn't it? Anything up to that is fine with me...

How is it a fetish for pissing people off? You are aware that if someone buys a loud exhaust for their bike (or car for that matter), the first thing that crosses their mind probably isn't "ooh yeah this will piss everyone off"?? Maybe said person just likes the sound it makes, or even bought the bike with the exhaust fitted in the first place and likes the way it looks and sounds, fancy that?! You seem to be too self absorbed in this mindsight that people have got some agenda, deliberately setting out to personally "offend" you with their noisy exhaust laugh. Loud exhausts, aftermarket or otherwise have been stuck on bikes for over 100 years, why is it only now everyone seems to be so up in arms about it? Because it's the modern way, to piss and moan about everything you find aggrieved or offended about. Get a grip, get laid or get a hobby, whatever it takes to release this pent up noise rage laugh

Look at me look at me
So is people having their dog barking incessantly, or their dodgy house or car alarm going off relentlessly at all hours, or some tit with 10 sets of wind chimes in their garden...and I don't really lose any sleep over any of that either. Why is automatically assumed that it's all about "look at me look at me"? Maybe you've got narcissistic tendancies yourself so can't look beyond anything being more than attention seeking? Maybe it's just a case of its their bike and they like it to look or sound a certain way!? Or maybe it's just you who is the utter bell, and believes that the whole of society needs to conform to your personal idea of what is acceptable?! Just concentrate on what you're doing and less about other people and you might even crack a smile, who knows.

I know from track noise tests that the noise meters detect and the noise that we hear are completely different.

A car in front of me was rejected as too noisy and mine was far louder and passed.

What brings you to the conclusion I lose sleep over it? I don’t. I actually love engine noises and great that people do it for their own enjoyment at the right place and time but it’s all the bellends on cars and bikes who drive upto 50-60 in 30s just to hear the pops and bangs and generally acting like dheads that spoil it for the majority of owners of loud cars/bikes.

I agree actually, but that is a completely different argument to the blanket assumption that anyone who has a loud aftermarket exhaust is some form of attention seeking arse hole. Anyone dicking around at twice the speed limit so they can get their car or bike to deliberately make a load of pops and bangs is stupid, but that's not what was being said previously.

Of course it was a sweeping statement / generalisation but the thing about them is that they’re so often true. For purposes of your blood pressure - let’s assume you’re in the minority.

For clarity, if you think my blood pressure is adversely affected by a randomer on an internet forum, you're very wide of the mark laugh

Have you even heard a Yoshimura RS-3 on an SRAD to quantify how loud it is? Assumptions can indeed be the mother of all fk ups wink

I live in an industrial city, you wouldn't want to come here for a holiday, large council estates, loads of vans, buses, lorries, its hardly the rolling green fields of West Sussex. Our Mayor introduced a 20mph limit in most of the city, so you have to be constantly, "on the ball", with speed, as it changes everywhere (my dad had a speeding ticket for 24 in a 20 and had to go on a course)

What's this got to do with loud exhausts?

I think that loud exhausts are totally acceptable, at the right time in the right place, far far more antisocial is speed. Previously mentioned above is 50-60 in a 30, I think he's right ..... as stated I drive like a 90yo, everyone leaves me alone.

I don't rev the bike in my garden at any time, last night about 22:00 I lowered my little Makita Builders Radio in the garden because I didn't want to disturb anyone. I regularly ride past, "sitting", Police at 20 in a 20, they got nothing to do other than look at what's passing, never been stopped. I bet if I went past at 50, there would be blue flashing lights ....

Speed is far more antisocial than noise .....
