Hello guys, my first post here, I have a 2015 bmw 640d, with 65k miles on it. I was checking online into these tuning box chips/ ECU modicifcatons, I was wondering what were peoples thoughts on it.

Any Pros and Cons, im from the UK so ive seen they have a few different companies doing it, prices going from 250-400 with increase of hp of 40, and torque by 70. and they say better fuel mpg also

If anyone has any advice, itd be much appreciated, thanks

How long have you had it for any issues? Im guessing tdi are usually 2lire engines right?

All cars all engines tuning. I've had remaps before but decided i wanted the option to take it off and swap to another car.

Better to get it flash mapped through the obd port. This way it'll be in optimum tune to suit your engine rather than a tuning box with a generic map and you'll get better gains..

I have been impressed with the DT-UK tri channel boxes, some impressive gains and choice of how you want the power delivered.

only with a rolling road, there are loads of big companies using genetic remaps.

Ive heard TDI are a pretty good company, chipping wont ruin your engine will it in a 640d?

I would guess the DT-UK box and TDI tuning one are pretty similar.

Price wise they are very close too.

I have personally had great experience from the DT-UK boxes on various cars.

I have actually preferred it on the 30d BMWs over remaps, the ability to change where the torque curve comes in has meant it has matched what I wanted from a map better than the remaps.

By that I mean I have been able to have the power rise quicker from the off rather than build and build towards the top of the rev range.

It sort of feels like the sport mode is engaged but quicker than that and without it wanting to hold onto revs for too long. It just feels more effortless and that is what I want from a big diesel.

I purchased the Racechip tuning box for my Volvo V60 T4 and I swiftly returned it for a refund, I could certainly feel the power increase on the car but within no time at all it would cause a check engine light and throw the car into limp mode, I tried sorting it through Racechip who initially insisted I wired it wrongly which I don't think is physically possible, in the end they accepted it was the device and issued a refund. I won't touch them again after that experience.

I had exactly the same experience with one I bought for my old E350,threw it straight into limp mode,I eventually went with a map and rolling road session at MSL,transformed how the car behaved.

I'd say go for a reputable one.
But then certainly pay £40 or £50 for a dyno run, and do a back to back "with" and "without" run.

I have tried a JB+ I measured a +30hp and +85 ft lb on the same car

The Racechip Pro is pretty aggressive out of the box.

On many of the BMWs I have had to set the DT-UK box to the lowest setting and then drive for 100 miles or so, let the car adapt, take it up a notch, rinse and repeat.

There is -3 to +3 on these with -3 adding around 40hp on the 30d and then each setting adding around 4hp.

I got the eml if starting on +0.
Actually got a drivetrain error come up on the idrive, but same thing.

You don't need to let the car "adapt".

I have a Racechip GTS on my CooperS and a Bluespark on my 330D, no problems at all. Both work exactly as advertised. I don't have any dyno runs to see what additional power they make but the butt dyno can detect marked differences between the various maps. If the car is going into limp mode with a CEL just dial it back a fraction

Loading a generic map onto the ECU is really no better than a tuning box. It's only when someone spends time doing wideband logging and data capture and tuning AFR, boost and ignition timing, that they are any better

I’ve got one of the TDI tuning boxes on my golf, definitely makes a noticeable difference straight away and I haven’t had any issues with it. As others have said unless you go for a serious remap with rolling road etc this is a very good option. Mine has 7 settings and is app controlled so you can go economy for longer runs or turn up the power for faster driving. Not a massive difference between the settings but it’s nice to have.

Resurrecting this. Is it true that the TDI-Tuning boxes are all the same but have different harnesses/wiring for different vehicles?
