How long do motorcycle disc brake pads last?

I thought my Nissin/Honda front brakes were worn nearly to the limit on a bike about 5 years ago, 12k miles covered, so booked into the dealer for new pads. They called me mid pad-swap to tell me that Nissin pads are much thinner than regular pads, & actually we're fine, probably for at least a further 10k miles!! However, winter had fked the rear pads - a chunk had broken off one, & the other was peeling away from it's backing.....
3k miles says the OP - he must be a track god!

Eeh, when I were a lad I went through a set of pads afore they was even fitted!
