I am buying a bike from my colleague and he is going away for a few weeks with work and I am going to book in for my test (again) in a fortnight. I would ask a friend to ride the bike back to my house and was wondering what would happen if he got stopped without tax. The bike has been SORN'ed so is it legal to transport it between storage places?

I would think definately not legal, however you've got to consider the fact that it would be very unlikely that he/you would be caught. If you're not taxing it I assume it's also not insured and I'd worry more about that !

I'm not an expert, but DVLA's form V10 (Vehicle licence application) asks
quote:

Has the vehicle been kept (eg parked) or used on a public road at any time between these dates (other than for a pre-arranged compulsary vehicle test)? Answer YES or NO

This seems to imply one thing, but the next thing said is
quote:

Keeping or using an unlicenced vehicle on a public road is an offence which could result in a maximum fine of £1,000......

Which doesn't seem to offer you the the exception

Thought as much. Thanks for the confirmation. Probably have to insure it as a provisional licence holder to get a cover note to tax it and then change my insurance when I pass.

I was able to insure my bike before I passed (CIA insurance - in the back of MCN). They said it was covered for fire theft etc, but just not covered for me to ride until I passed. But someone else could then ride it on thier insurance TPF&T.
