Tinkering thread! What are you up to?

Another one glad to hear about your Dad on the mend - luckily everyone I know has pulled through who had the 'rona, but some have been very ill indeed.
Also more Maico stuff please
So many great projects going on here, I'll have to force myself to take some pictures while I'm tinkering, I'm rubbish at it.

I've recently swapped the discs and calipers on my S2r, just waiting for new brake lines to turn up then I'll have front brakes again.

I will also be replacing the oil filter as the oem Ducati one leaks a tiny bit but it's p-ing me off, I've changed loads in the past and this is the first one that hasn't sealed properly...
I've also ordered a full set of brake lines for the Mito together with new bolts and bleed nipples; they'll be fitted when they turn up as well.
Ah, the good old 996 converson kit, was the first thing I did when I got my 800cc S2R ..... rolling stoppies were so much easier !!!Before

I should be back home in a few weeks, so plan is to get the new slimmed down loom fitted into my CBR400RR track bike and get that tuned up ready for some trackdays this year. I also have some fork mods planned for it (emulators and new springs) as it is a bit soft on the front at the moment.
After that I have a TS50X (same as my first bike) that needs a full restoration

Currently ruining a scabby zzr600 I bought cheap by ratting it. Cleaned carbs, swapped plugs, coils n leads to get it running better first, although the fairing was removed as soon as I got it.
ER5 headlight, handlebar mounts cut of top yoke and risers bolted through. Have figured out how to do some basic welding so will be cutting down the subframe and seat too.

Hello Merch,I guess the transmission gears are no longer original ?
The factory upgrade from 883 to 1000 was OK-ish,
but 1200 was just too much for the poorly-designed transmission gears,
many 1200s came with cracked gears happening on the downshift or motorbrake.
There was just not enough "meat" between the holes on the side, where the dogs engage,
and the "valley" of the gear.
Andrews or Baker gears are much beefier.

This sounds rather intriguing...ER5 headlight, handlebar mounts cut of top yoke and risers bolted through. Have figured out how to do some basic welding so will be cutting down the subframe and seat too.
Many things still not done, but season is nearing and I usually stop doing anything car/bike related once weather improves and work
increases
Apart from doing a couple of mot's, usual maintenance and cleaning
M72 number one:
Repaint small part of sidecar frame that has been scuffed when loading onto trailer
Try to find the reason why it's shutting off under braking after running well for an hour/ track a charging issue
M72 number two:
Finish restoration, or at least wiring, brakes and wheels, paint the gas tank and relocate it from my desk to the garage
Buells:
Redo fork seals on one and remap and replace some missing bolts on the other. Buy shares in Loctite.
Fathers GS:
Replace corroded timing cover, retrofit tyre pressure sensors with icom. New loom and a different set of body panels has already been fitted
My RT:
Send valve covers for powder coating after low siding that thing on the Glockner. Fit tyre pressure sensors. Disassemble most
of the front to replace turn signals. Ignore corroded timing cover.
Repaint steering column of the Corvette and refit dashboard. Ignore my fathers Alfa Spider long term project for another year.
That should cover most of March

Currently re-commissioning a '96 Fireblade. Previous owner(s) have left it with a number of challenges. Currently trying to sort out the botched repairs on two exhaust studs. Then on to new tyres, brake pads, fork rebuild and a plethora of other little jobs. Many bolts have corroded beyond being able to be rescued.
Don't leave you bike under a cover in a damp garage for 5 years would be my take away from this one!

The whole thread is impressive! Some clever people we have amongst us.
...Wish I had a 14 year old that was that interested in anything motor related and so easy to buy for at Xmas!

Thats brilliant.
I wish I had been given a siezed engine for Christmas when I was 14, infact I'd be canny happy getting one for Christmas now
Cheers guys, I’ve given him the feedback from the thread, he said “see, You’re so lucky that I’m your son”I wish I had been given a siezed engine for Christmas when I was 14, infact I'd be canny happy getting one for Christmas now
Thought I’d share a few more of his exploits....
This is the actual Christmas project bike. It’s an old Honda CA77. They weren’t sold in the UK so parts are tricky.
He’s had a break from the Honda, and put a new clutch in his KTM over the weekend.
And this is one of my favorite pictures of him out riding... I didn’t run him over.
Got a couple jobs to do on my piddly KTM Duke 125 until I can get my test done and get on to a proper bike. Changed over the front brake cylinder and lever, got a new brake light switch to change too.
Need to find the route of my speedometer issue, too. The speedo only reads the first number of the speed you're doing, but it's not like dead pixels.
EG. Doing 30MPH it shows 3MPH. And the 3 is where the 0 should be? So 0-9MPH = 0MPH. 10-19MPH = 1MPH. 20-29 = 2MPH and so on
I've got my phone set up with a GPS speedo mounted on the dash but it's not exactly ideal!

This last couple of weeks ive been doing up another "pre loved" Raleigh Chopper which has sat for many years in an environment not very kind to it, tried the stuff I used in the fuel tank of the YSR (vaporust) on some of the more tarnished/rusted parts and well... its done a great job, worth remembering if you have a similar problem..and the stuff re-usable. Have some rusty old spanners sitting in it now!
I'm about to do a high bar conversion on my Aprilia Falco. I didn't really enjoy riding it the past couple of years and I think this might change my opinion.
I like the engine, handling and looks but it's just a bit uncomfortable unless going pretty quick. I picked up an Tuono top yoke for £25 and I have a few pairs of Renthal bars kicking around. New throttle cables and brake lines and the job should be OK. I'm hoping to get away with just a screen trim. I'm not cutting the fairing as they are nearly impossible to get.
