This one was scuffed in a lowside years ago, but the other can is untouched and its the same.
I think the end cap is aluminium. Didn't realise it breaks down like that.
I've dug out the original ones, which will do for now.
I have a feeling if the bike was still used daily then this wouldn't have happened. Maybe months of moisture sitting inside it? That would otherwise be burned out each morning.

Quite possibly, is it kept somewhere relatively damp? Have you been running the bike up for 5 mins at a time?BuzzBravado said:
I was turning it over every month or so
Not wanting to jump to conclusions, but that won't have helped - no need to start it regularly if it's sitting unless you're going to take it out for a ride and get everything nice and hot, it just attracts moisture otherwise!FSEngineer said:

Agreed. Change the oil and fill the tank before you put it away and it will be fine for several months, at least. The aluminium corrosion like that happens on early Porsche wheel nuts - and later cars on the spherical caps under the bolts; it appears to flake in sheets almost.
Wrt cans, I sold my Scorpions (they sounded a bit tinny imo) and fitted Yoshimura (USA) to my TLR instead; the finish is great* and has stood up to years of sat in the garage......

- The biggest issue at the start was an amount of twist between the inlet and outlet that effectively made the end caps look off centre , I had to send them back to the US and ended up paying twice for them, but they sound a load better (much deeper tone than cheaper Micron or Scorpion) and come with dB killers for MOT time.
