Cheers guys. Unfortunately, it's clear that this one hasn't been very well looked after - the clutch is slipping (how is that even possible with only 23k!?), the stator cover is leaking and spraying oil on my boot, it's been dropped previously, and I think the cush drive is perished. So I have decided to return the bike but I will be getting another, hopefully better, identical example as soon as one comes available. If you know of any, give me a shout.
I know you shouldn't have to, but not worth fixing?

Looks lovely.
Agreed - fantastic-looking thing. I used to love the induction noise on my early Street Triple. Maybe have the dealer sort it, rather than returning it? It then becomes a bit more of a known quantity?

I have thought about it, but I don't have the time to faff around taking it to the local indy, getting a quote, getting approval, taking it back for the work, and then taking it to the main dealer for an outstanding recall. It was also delivered with a dead battery so after all of that, it has taken the shine off it somewhat.

I would normally get it fixed but I just get the impression this one hasn't been cared for, and as I want to keep it for a while, I want a good one. It's also overdue a major service so taking all of that into account, it's not great value and I would rather wait a few months for a good one. The problem is there aren't many available but I guess I'll have to be patient.

Fundamentally though it is a great bike and I can't wait to get another.

Makes total sense, and as you say at least you know you love the bike - fingers crossed you can find a good one soon-ish.

Getting a bit fed up now. Returned the first one due to the clutch and bought another one, from a major dealer, only to have what sounds like big end failure? After 50 miles. I think someone is trying to tell me something.

Sure it's not just chain slap? These suffer from crap chain tensioners just as much as most other 15 year old sports bikes.

That was my first thought - I know what that sounds like - but this thing is fubar'd and won't start.

I've heard the 675 lump likes a slurp of oil so it might be a big end gone or maybe it's spun a big end?

I had one new in 2006...best bike I've owned, I still think the plain colours of the original bikes look better than the later models, it had the TOR end can fitted which sounded amazing.

Stupidly I traded this lovely mint bike in 2011 for a new STR I should have kept the Daytona and just bought the STR anyway.

I'd forgotten, even the old ones are very smart looking aren't they?

Shame because if you are down Pompey way I know a great mechanic/engineer who could fix those issues and get it factory fresh.
