Hi guys
Just to bring this topic up to date, I passed my mod 2 today at the first attempt. Really happy with the result and have a CBR 650f being delivered on Monday. This weekend is going to feel like a long one!!

I'm looking forward to many adventures and being able to contribute to the pictures thread.

Thanks to all those that have contributed to this thread.
That was quick. My mod 1 is on Monday and most likely will be wet on that day. Even though I did a mock up test a few times I'm still stressed out.
Yeah I got quite lucky with my school. I did my mod 1 last week then managed to get mod 2 this week. I didn't have too much time to stress about it as I only found out last Friday that the mod 2 was today which was good. Hope your mod 1 goes well. It is probably harder than the mod 2 just because it is unnatural if that makes sense. Good luck.

It took me 4 half day lessons to go from CBT to DAS. Passed first time without any minors.

I had a 125 for 3.5 years before taking the test. Mixture of life getting in the way and a 125 being enough for the commute (it wasn't!) put the test off. In hindsight I should have just done the DAS after doing the first CBT.

Although obvious going from a 125 to a 600-700 the acceleration is way different and initially I found myself approaching vehicles in traffic at a higher rate than I expected, although having driven for decades and some reasonably quick motors I think the lack of a visual 'frame' that you have in a car (windscreen / bonnet) that is missing on a bike is part of the reason - your eye/ mind has to relearn to scale the image of the vehicle a different way maybe?

I'd agree with that and also things like most 600's rev very highly so it takes a bit of getting used to and finally, a decent (sports) 600 is far faster than almost any car once it's in it's stride.

My first bike was a GSX-R600 after spending 6 days on an intensive course (I'd never ridden anything prior to the course).

Mod 1 passed with no minors. It was over before I knew it. Waiting for the date for Mod 2.

Nice one, congrats. New/first bike day for me today. It's just been delivered. I'm now sat at work counting down the minutes. It's going to be a long afternoon.

Congrats! I did mine last summer having never sat on a bike before.

Missed 3 hours of Mod 1 training as I was in the pub and the school had put the wrong date on my lesson card, so I’d only had about 6 hours on a bike, passed with one minor as I didn’t hit the min speed.

Mod 2 much easier, especially if you already drive and you’ve got ‘road’ experience.

I bought a MG V7 as my first bike, 55 odd hp, not really very fast but I’m enjoying getting used to riding.

Enjoy it and stay safe smile

I was thinking about CB650R, but because I'm quite tall I would have to sit on one first. I also like the CB1100, but it is probably too powerful for a beginner.

My instructor said that mod 2 is less tricky. There are only two examiners at my local test centre, both pretty chilled and from what I understand they want to see more bikers on the road and you have to do something obviously stupid or dangerous to fail.

CB1100 too potent? No chance. 90hp in 240kg is undoubtedly pretty tame, even if it doesn't immediately feel like it as a newb.

Buy one and enjoy yourself.

I’d say that’s good for a new rider.

My first bike had 125bhp/180kg but that was pretty sedate as a 600 below 8k.

I think new riders benefit from ABS and any other electronic aids that are available, I know there is a counter argument to riding with nothing but feel but I also feel there are many complexities to riding in all conditions especially as a new rider.
